    New User BES questions

    Hello,

I work for a customer on a contract basis and have an email account with them and they would like me to use a Blackberry linked to that account. They currently use Vodafone for all of the mobile phone accounts and use a Viodafone supplied BES.

I have my own personal mobile phone account also with Vodafone (through my own business) and it would be free and easy for me to upgrade to get the blackberry hardware.

    Four questions:

Would it be straighforward for them to register my personal Blackberry with their BES?

Would I therefore get billed or the data and calls by Vodafone? (Preferred)

What if they changed their mobile phone / Blackberry supplier? Could they redirect a BES supplied by someone else to my Vodafone Blackberry (as I want to keep my own account)?

Any other issues I shoudl be aware of?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards,

    Marcus.

    astonmartinv, Welcome to PinStack.

While I'm not the BES expert here on the forums, I don't think you would have any problem getting put on their BES. And I know many BB Users that are on the same BES, yet have different carriers. I'm not sure about your question on charges. Are you asking about separate charges?

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

    Re: New User BES questions

I think I can help out here, as the company that I work for has quite a diverse environment.

Absolutely. The owner/carrier/model of the Blackberry doesn't matter at all to the BES. The US portion of my company has Blackberry's from every carrier and every model on various BES servers, while some of the non-US folks are "standardized" on a particular carrier and model. There is no differnce in operation.

Would I therefore get billed or the data and calls by Vodafone? (Preferred)
The only billing that happens is the data plan cost, so you won't see a different charge for being hooked up to a BES. Since you're currently on Vodaphone, that's who'll you get the data plan bill from.

What if they changed their mobile phone / Blackberry supplier?
As previously noted, it doesn't matter. With my company, here in the US, it's up to the individual to decide which carrier/device they want to use. In other countries, they've standardized on a single carrier/device, but there's nothing on the BES that needs to know/care about that.

Could they redirect a BES supplied by someone else to my Vodafone Blackberry (as I want to keep my own account)?
The BES is a back-end server which directs the mail to your device. You can definitely have a Blackberry that's connected to both a BES and BIS (the "non-BES" flavor of the service). I'm not sure if you can have a Blackerry that's registered on two different BES accounts though. (If I was at work today, I could try that, as I've got a lab environment with a "sandbox" BES that doesn't connect to our production server.) I'm not sure if that would work, but what you could do is to have your other email forwarded to a BIS account (or elsewhere).

I hope this has been helpful, and please let me know if there's any other information that I can provide.
