Always a good idea to add yourself to your BB Messenger (then you have a good way of testing if it's working).
Is your mail working? Also, what state does your radio say on the home screen? (you didn't say which carrier you're on, so not sure if it should say EDGE, 3G or EVDO).

if you have the Internet options on your blackberry you can send pin messages, and add contacts to your blackberry messenger.. also what Ridicule said is true also... so make sure you get the Internet plan for your blackberry or it wont work.

if your home screen says edge then you dont have pin messages available.

if your home screen says EDGE then you have pin messages available and you can add contacts to your blackberry messenger...

so you need the blackberry Internet plan

If you haven't subscribed to BB service then most of the features of the BlackBerry (including BB Messenger) aren't available to you. Having no data service at all, then your BlackBerry is pretty much just a phone with a calendar and a good contact list.

Thanks for all of your input. What is entailed in BB service that makes a difference?
