Lightbulb Man Gets an $85,000 Cell Phone Bill for Modem Use

I know our pearls can be connected to our laptops to be used as an internet modem... but does tmobile or any other carriers we use with our pearl charge us for using it like that? I hope not, or else some of us are gonna get charge a lot too.

Oh yeah, just read the comments, the first one says that AT&T will charge you for doing it. Tmobile seems to "have their act together"

AT&T has various plans, some of which include 'tethering' others don't

The AT&T Tethering plans are substantially more $$ than those that don't allow it ($29 vs $59 if I remember right)

Verizon is $44.99 for the BB plan and (I believe) it allows tethering.

TMobile is $19.99 and includes tethering for that price.

The tradeoff IMO is the network. TMo's not the most stable and EDGE isn't actually available in many places.

I hope TMO continues to rise above it all & keep their plan the way it is.

Remember, though: double-dipping ATM fees started in Florida. The media got hold of that story, & now everyone else has jumped on that band wagon.

Just ASK. Before using my BB as a tethered modem I got T-Mobile support to state that unlimited usage was included in the standard $20 a month Internet access plan.

    And kept a record

You can tether your BB on VZW but it is not "included" in the plan. You have to pay $15/mo for the access.

the funny thing for 'another very popular cell phone/music/video player device" is that t-mobile Germany calls the plan unlimited but if you hit a certain limit depending on you plan your speed gets throttled to 64 Kbps. Thanks tmo.

If you have a blackberry plan with Verizon you only pay $15/month for tethering. Before these new plans you had to pay for internet access $45 or whatever it was and the $15/month. If anyone is still paying the $45/month in addition to $15/month you might consider switching your plan to the newer ones.

T-Mobile has the best plan for this and they have EDGE coverage in many places, the downloads are 2.5 times the speed of dial up though. It is very usefull for when travelling and definately T-mobile will not steal your money out of using it as a modem...you get the straight fee for internet and thats it. 19.99 for a blackberry FTW!
