well... was on an Emirates airlines flight the other night and as soon as the plane finished ascending to cruising altitude an announcement came on saying ''you are welcomed to turn on your mobile phones, please put them on silent mode as a courtesy to other passengers".
Of course I had to wip out the Bold and see what this was all about. Turned it on and in no time had a signal, with calls and text messages coming through.
No data, yet but they have stated that they expect to have data and BLACKBERRY SERVICES SOON!!!!!!!

I was p[laying with my Bold on a Westjet flight from Edmonton to Toronto. I had the radio transmitter turned off per airline regulations. How shocked was I when, whilst in the middle of a game of WordMole my newmail indicator squaked.

Turns out they are testing in-flight Wifi and, at the time, hadn't secured it with WEP etc. My Wifi had connected and had grabbed my email. Well.... Internet all the way to Toronto... HEAVEN.

of course it cant pick up a normal signal that high. You can pick up a normal network signal after take off and on decent for about 10-15 minutes before landing. But this is a new system which they have outfitted on the planes, where you are essentially roaming on the airlines ''network, which I presume they have running off satellites because obviously there is no GSM signal 30,000 feet above the Atlantic ocean!.. lol

Of course have to pay a lot more. Waiting to get the bill.

And that is because blackberry's are the best. Could an Iphone do that? ... Probably not.

I'm looking forward to it... Last time I flew I too only had signal during takeoff and landing. Of course one can hardly complain about this happening over Greenland and the North Atlantic when it also did in spots in Califiornia (e.g. driving through Mendocino County)
