Lat/Long OTM Translator? (GPS app)
Most (all?) the GPS or geocaching programs for the Blakcberry all work in lat/long, and don't have any way of either entering, reading out, or translating to/from UTM. This seems odd, since (especially in geocaching) UTM is becoming the standard.
Not optimal, but an app that could do the translation would be a work-around. You could enter the UTM coords and get the lat/long then manually enter them to create a waypoint.
There are websites that do this, but an installed app would work when you don't have a signal.
Anyone know of an app that can do this?
I just found Location Notes, which does convert from lat/long to UTM, but not the other way around. UTM to lat/long would be necessary to create waypoints in the existing GPS programs like GeoBerry or GPSLogger.
I found a program that uses UTM - TrekBuddy.
You can also download and store maps (google maps, topo, satellite, anything) so you can view your location on a map even without a phone/data signal. It looks really powerful and will do most everything a GPS does - But OMFG! is it complicated to get up and running!!!
It's got a zillion customizable features, all of which need to be set/programmed before it will function at all - even installing a base map needs to be custom created and installed by each first-time user. There are some pre-made maps and other features that have been created by users, but most of the links to these are dead.
A "Getting Started - Newbie Mode" or all-in-one starter download would be great.
