I haven't had a land line since '02. I get internet through free city wifi and tv from satalitte. I've had dsl on and off through the years but never hooked up a phone to it.

I wish I could ditch the landline as the phone doesn't work but I have a medical alert system connected to it.

I used to be able to see the argument for keeping a land line since they are more likely to work during a bad storm or natural disaster - but my "land line" was actually through my cable company so it would fail when the power went out anyway, therefore why pay for something I didn't need. I have good cell reception and no medical reason to keep mine, so I got rid of it in spite of my mother telling me not to. Hopefully she will never have reason to say "I told you so"!

I use T-Mobile's Hotspot@Home service with my Curve and disconnected my land line about a year ago. Lets you have unlimited minutes if you start a call on a wireless network (Phone says "UMA"). This lets me have a lower minutes allowance. That combined with "MyFaves" has kept two phones below 700 "billed" minutes per month for the last year.

Killed mine about three years ago, no regrets. Someone needs me, they call my cell. My wife, her cell. The only calls I was getting to the land line were telemarketing, I had no desire to pay for those calls.

So none of you folks have a security system, right...cuz it (the system) uses the land line to call the monitoring location when the alarm goes off. Never thought about that before now. (Call me old fashion. Yep, I do have one...of each.)

Haven't had one in years. We have 3 cell phones between the 2 of us, cable and internet. If someone wants to find us it's not hard and we can cut communications when we want to. Landlines are going the way of pay phones...out
