Just switching from a Treo...and struggling with transfering address book

Greetings all. I've just moved over from a Treo 600 to a Blackberry 8700g with T-Mobile -- with much trepidation I might add. T-mobile did not move up the Treo upgrade chain, and so here I am. Must say it has been a much easier transition than I thought -- in part to this forum and the helpful tips and programs I picked up here. But I sure do miss the touch screen and the 4-way button even more!

And while I am at it, I'd appreciate some help. I have Desktop Manager 4.2 installed and am using the "Switch Devices" feature to try and transfer my Treo address book over to the BB. Most of it comes over, but I'm being frustrated by the info in the Treo's "custom" fields 1-4 not transfering over the the BB's "user" fields 1-4. Is there a way to force the mapping? Thanks in advance for any tips!

I had the same problem but it was a Treo 650. I ended up beaming via bluetooth the entire address book from the Treo into MS Outlook on my laptop. Then I used the import from Outlook feature in BB Desktop. It worked perfectly.

Thanks. Based on this I have now managed to import all the data I want into Outlook, but here is the dumb question...I don't see an "import from Outlook" option in BB Desktop 4.2. Is it somewhere other than "Switch Devices" -- all I see there is import from another BB or a Tre/CE device. Am I missing something?

    vwidge, Welcome to PinStack,

Once all your Treo stuff is in Outlook, just go to the Syncronization option of DM 4.2 and Configure your Sync settings, then sync your outlook to your BB, using I think it's the Import option the first time, unless you have already entered some addresses manually. What you want to do one time is force outlook to load on the BB the first time. After that change the setting to Sync.

    Hope this helps

It took a while to format and clean up the data in Outlook (having imported it from Palm Desktop to start with!), but the rest worked like a charm as you suggested. I now have a fully functional address book on my BB. Thanks much!

Glad we could help. I know that it can be a problem sometimes going from a palm device to any other format.
