    OUCH!!

Haven't heard this one before, but did you immediately take it apart and remove the battery? Need to let it dry out for a few days and take it from there. Put it in a ziplock back full of rice to help aid in the moisture removal.

It's probably got some water damage, I'd try the solution above. Most times it may take a couple days to completely dry out. The BB may work after than but will most likely have problems come up later.

I'm not too sure about the warranty but I believe water is not covered
Even if there is no image on the screen you can attempt a backup and move that data to her "replacement" blackberry.....

Nope, water damage is not covered under the warranty, but do you by chance have insurance on these devices?

My wife has a Moto ROKR that she dropped in the toilet about 6 months ago. Recently it just started turning itself on and off out of the blue. Every once in awhile it will also just start calling random numbers from her address book.
I guess I'll get to my point though. It may dry out and work but, don't be surprised when it starts doing weird things down the road. My guess is that while you'll probably get most of the moisture out, some will remain. This little bit of remaining moisture will probably corrode some of your internal components (which is likely the cause of erratic behavior from the device).
