Is cold weather bad for a Blackberry?

I know that excessive heat isn't good for a Blackberry, but what about excessive cold? I use my Blackberry while waiting for the bus to work, should I avoid using it when the weather is super duper cold? I'm not talking about precipitation, just freezing cold temperatures.

Well how long are you using it for in the morning? I cant imagine that long otherwise your fingers might have more problems then your BB.

That's a very good point, my fingers would probably freeze up before my blackberry!

Exactly. I dont see there being a problem using it for short period of times in the cold. The heat is more of a concern so circuits and wires dont melt.

Electronics usually don't mind cold. The screen may get a little slow, but you'll freeze long before any damage is done.

You may want to limit the time though and try to warm it back up slowly. Don't want to be collecting any condensdation in the BB. Not saying it happens, but it could.

I put mine in my front pocket and it stays pretty warm against my skin.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ummmm actually I might be thinking about something else but I'm pretty sure the blackberry user manual has something a long the lines of stoeing conditions. Or it could be the battery. I think that it can't exceed temperatures of like 150 degrees. Or can be below 30degrees. I could be mistaken. Consult the manual though.

    Mark and Jonny,

I have been able to use my 8830 in my steam filled bathroom while I was turning my bathroom into a sauna (I had a bad head cold)

I am wondering if I can use my 8830 in a Sauna?

That's probably not a good idea, eventhough the BB worked the moisture could be enough to change you water damage sticker and effect your warranty.

Water damage indicators are very sensitive. For that reason alone I would keep it away from steam or other sources of water vapor. Once that little white sticker in the battery compartment turns Red, your warranty is worthless.

Depends on the phone, I've seen some water damage stickers under the battery or battery cover, other's I have seen actually inside the phone where you can't see.

Re: Is cold weather bad for a Blackberry?

this is off topic but there are more than one of those water damage stickers...usually 3 or 4 more hidden throughout the phone...the ones on the batteries and doors are for quick evaluation by anyone...whereas the others take some finding...hope this helps

as for the original post going from one extreme to the other is never good whether it's on your BB or your body...never good to shock anything that way...however your BB should operate until you hit about -25 below where things can actually start to get messed up due to extreme cold...other than that the normal conditions we live in here in the lower 48 should cause no need for concern just because you go from having a snowball fight to running inside and sitting in front of the toasty fire...pretty much if you can handle it so can your BB except for the saunas, but for that we use a ziplock freezer back
