iphone isn't even secure after you wipe it....

    From BGR today:

"Thinking about selling your iPhone in anticipation of the upcoming 3G launch? Proceed with caution. According to iPhone Atlas, “delted” user data is still able to be recovered by future owners. It seems that user data is held in unused portions of the device’s NAND memory, even after a full wipe has been executed. A recent attempt to mine data from a fresh-out-of-the-box refurbished unit revealed a significant amount of sensitive data, including emails, contacts, and more. To be fair, the miner recovered the data with professional grade forensics software, so you probably won’t have much to worry about from the average end-user, but it’s still something to be mindful of if you’re looking to sell your unit second hand."

Things like this are why as a Blackberry Admin I laugh when people ask me to use an iphone on our servers. Jobs has the iphone kernel so locked down that even when you wipe a device, or even when you RELOAD an OS, it's still got user data that is EASILY obtained with the most archaic of forensic software search tools. If this had been a windows mobile device there would be articles left and right about how "unstable and unsecure" this device is. Jobs gets a pass on a lot of stuff, and this is going to seriously be in the back of every LAN admin/BES admin's mind when they're putting sensitive company/government data on a device like this. A remote wipe function does little when the data isn't encrypted in the first place lol

Wow nice find, this will definitely kill any chance of and iPhone being a contender on the corporate level. I think we all know which is the better fruit.

Just to be safe, if you're thinking about selling your iPhone, experts recommend that you delete all user data, wipe the phone, uninstall the OS, remove the flash chips, dip them in acid, then dispose of the remains by jetisoning it into the sun. Then buy a Blackberry, enable content protection, and become smug toward all other smartphone users.
It's been scientifically proven this method is the only way to keep your personal data safe.

My advice to anyone with one of these crappolas is to give it to your local hobo for they wouldn't mind having a phone to make people feel sorry for them and get cash to buy an bb.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~The only good thing to do with an Apple is eat it. Hitting the iphone with a sludge hammer also makes the owner's data secure.

Only if this is performed prior to user data input.

I heard if you throw the iPhone at a moving train, that usually does a fairly decent job of wiping your critical data

Just use the same method I recommend to all the Windows Mobile Users. ( for ANY WM error) Get a warm bucket of water, submerge the device till no more bubbles come out, and then buy a blackberry.

Although I must Say BenMarvins Idea has a lot of merit!
