If stolen, then wiped, then what happens?

    Ok, I have a question.
Lets say your BB got stolen and password lock was enabled. They try the password as many times as it would take to wipe the device. So the device gets wiped.

Now what? Can that device be used? Can they just reload the OS and start using if for themselves? I never knew the answer to this question. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

If the device gets wiped, I don't think there's anything stopping a person from using the phone. I haven't wiped a phone this way, but usually a wipe will just clean all the user-added info to the phone. But this won't necessarily disable the phone.

AFAIK, if it has been reported as lost or stolen, most carriers won't activate it as it is tagged by IMEI and PIN in the RIM database.

dubdub are you sure about that? i work at a pretty busy att store and i have random customers coming in activating used/older blackberry that were "given" to them or purchased from a friend. i have to go by their word and i havent had an issue yet with activating service on them. are you just saying activate as in email services?

Hi pinstackers, I have tried it and if you did put a security code and the devices is stolen and the handheld is wiped you cant upgrade the device if you dont input the security code.

From what I have heard and read, as long as it was reported lost or stolen and the carrier lists it in their database, it should not abe to be activated. Anything is possible however. If the device was unlocked, all bets woudl be off unless the lost/stolen data is shared.
