Post How to Reset your BlackBerry

Purpose:
People often don't know when / how to reset their BlackBerry when they have a problem, this guide will cover the methods, reasons, and order in which resets should be done.
Reason:
There are many reasons to reset a BlackBerry, in general when things are just not working the way they should a reset is likely to correct the problem.

Some possible reasons to perform a reset (there's many reasons, here's just a sample):
1. Corrupt display
2. No network connection even though radio turned on (note that you could try to re-register on the network first)
3. JVM Error message displayed (you will want to backup your device and reload the firmware asap)

Models:
All models except the 850/857

There are three different types of resets, and they should be tried in order...

1) Power cycle - simply turn the device off, then on
2) Soft-Reset - Hold down ALT + CAP + DEL
3) Hard-Reset - Locate and push the reset button using a paper-clip.

Note: The BB-7100 and BB-7290 and BB-7520 do not have reset buttons, on these you need to remove the battery (gently) wait a few seconds and then re-insert the battery. Be careful as you do not want to damage the contacts (or get them dirty for that matter).

Reset-Button Locations:
67xx / 95x / 77xx - On the back, at the bottom of the unit (small hole)
62xx / 72xx - Underneath the battery cover (small hole, marked as RESET)
6510 / 7510 - By the battery (small hole)

No reset button:
71xx / 7290 / 7520

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

Is there a way to do the '3-finger salute' on the 7100i? I used to be able to do a soft reboot on the 7520 by pressing Alt/Cap/Del, but can't figure out how to do it on the 7100i.

No, this doesn't seen to work on the 7100i. I hold down the Alt (under the ZX key) and the Cap (the button with the # on it) and the Backspace (DEL) key. No reboot.... is there a certain order they have to be held down?

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

Doesn't seem to work on my 7100i - simultaneously or one at a time. Even if I hold the buttons down for several secons. Anyone else get it to work?

Seems as though on the 7100 you just have to take the battery out. Doesn't work on my T either.

Doesn't work for me either. I know there is a way to do it without taking out the battery. I have done it before but I don't recall how.

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

I need to reset my 7290 as I have sold it, what's the best way to do this so that none of my data remains on there - I basically wanted to get it to exactly when I got it out of the box.

Anyone who can help will receive my amazing gratitude.

Cheers,

D.

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

Go to options->security->general settings, then click wheel and scroll down to wipe handheld. It then should ask you are sure (press continue) then ask you to type the word 'Blackberry'. Thats what I did when I have sold mine in the past. It leaves all programs/apps/games but erases user info(contacts, messages, call logs etc.)

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

The only thing that worked for me was to connect and login using the Desktop Manager and type the password in wrong 10 times.

It reset everything. But it still remembered the past passwords. Not sure how to delete the passwords.

Re: How to Reset your BlackBerry

I can't get the soft reset to work on the 7105t. I don't need to do it, but would like to know how. The above suggestions do not work.
