HOW TO: Creating Accented or Special Characters

In order to accent or change the character of a letter:
1.Depress and hold down the letter's key.
2.Roll the trackball.
3.When the desired accent or character change is achieved, release the letter's key.

Just to add a tiny side note - This will work for email & BBM but not in SMS (on 4.5 & below anyway).

Tested on 8330 4.5.0.89 and in sms all it does is go between cap and lower case.

Depends on the character. Some don't havé vârìåtÏöñs.
Most do. And the platform should provide for the feature in Email, MMS, SMS, Tasks, Memo, Calendar, and any other prog that you may want to use your key pad

Nope doesn't work for me in SMS either, for my pearl or curve both on OS 4.5.0.89 works fine in email tasks memos calendar.......but not in texting.

Oh, and yes I did specifically try letters that do in fact have special characters.

What languages do you have installed?

Today I have a 7290 with 4.1.0.377 and the 8700 with 4.2 and the special characters are available in SMS -

Hmmm, what languages do you have installed? I have never been able to do special characters in SMS on any previous BB's I have owned. I have had English only on all devices.
