Holidays and Birthdays on your Calendar

Hey guys, one of the reasons I needed to get my hand on a new PDA or Smartphone was to get all my reminders back in the palm of my hands. I used to have a palm with reminders set for birthdays and also had an app for holidays. I was looking for similar apps for my BB in order not to forget those special events and I just found out that Outlook (mine is 2007) does it for you.

    Here is how to:
-For birthdays, just go to your contacts, and on the "Details" tab enter the person’s birthdays. Save and exit the contact. This will automatically create and entry in your calendar with an alarm on the day of that birthday. Once you sync you will get the reminders on your BB Calendar. The only thing you will not get is the info on the contacts list, but who cares since it is on the calendar and it will remind you.

-For Holidays, I found on Tools - Options - Calendar Options, you can just hit the "Add Holidays..." and you will get a list of countries where you select and all those special dates will be added to your calendar. The cool thing is that this will just be a note on the calendar and not a reminder alarm (I don´t think you would want and alarm reminder at 8 am on Xmas or new years, lol)

Well hope this helps some of you guys out there. I´m new to the forums and didn´t find much info on this, so I decided to write it for anyone who needs it.

    cya!

Just tried it, With outlook 2000 it only adds the holidays up to 2005..
Does anyone else knows of a software or script that can add all holidays to the Outlook? Otherwise I am gonna have to look for old CDs for later version of Outlook.

    Thanks.

For those with older versions of outlook, here is some info:
    http://www.email.ku.edu/docs/OUTLOOK.HOL

    From:
    http://www.email.ku.edu/faqs/calendar.shtml

This seems to work great, just find your own outlook.hol and overwrite it with this one, it will update all holidays for you.

what problem are you having with outlook and vista? I did the process on Outlook and Xp, but I will try at home where I have Vista installed. By the way I use BIS and have regular POP mail servers, I´m not on an exchange server or BES.

And thanks hyedipin for that usefull link to update the holidays for earlier outlook versions.
