Are you connect to BES? Has an IT Policy been applied to your BB by the BES Admin? Did you by the device used? If so it may have an IT Policy on it. If it does your SOL. You could sign up for a hosted BES service for the sake of having a blank policy sent to your BB. Check your options as well to be certain you don't have any password protection setup.

Dumb Question Maybe, but here it goes:

Are you going to Options>Security>General Security and changing it there?

If so, what are the options under Security Timeout? Only 1 minute and 2 minutes? You should have 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 1 hour...And are you making sure that you save the changes after you have changed it?

You may also need to contact the original owner and have the IT policy killed or removed from the BB.

You will need to reinstall your Handheld OS and all apps and perform an enterprise activation. That's why you should back up any applications you don't want to lose.

I could be wrong, but I dont think wiping the handheld would help. If that were the case, any stolen blackberry would be free game. Anyone else?

Wiping the handhelp does erase the Enterprise Activation. I have done it a few times to know better...If that is where his problem lies he will be okay.

When you reinstall your OS you will receive everything that comes standard on your Berry, for that OS at least. Its like restoring your computer, it brings it back to the original state, before your problems existed. Kinda like brand new out of the box.

If you are referring to your web browser and email icons, they come back after you re-register on the wireless network by going to Options>Advanced Options>Host Routing Table and clicking on Register Now. For your email to start coming to your device again, log into your .blackberry.net account, select Setup Internet Email, click on Service Books and resend them.
