Hebrew on BB browser (read: HELP)

    Hi.
i hope there will be someone who can help me on this one:
    i have a 7100v. original OS 4.0.2.
when i open the BB browser and try to read hebrew site i dont get hebrew. i get squares instead.
    the encoding is correct: UTF-8.
well i though, it just cant.
BUT.....when our firm got the new 8700v devices ( i am incharge off configurating them for the clients..) i checked and they can read the hebrew letters in their BB browser.....
ok....so i upgraded my OS to OS 4.1.0.292 thinking they will get the same Browser software but it didnt help.....
i checked with our BB-server guys and they said that it is not server controlled.
    any idears?

I wonder if this is not due to the difference in the Processors used in the two devices. The 8700 series use a newer processor chip set that has more capabilities in processing graphics. One thing you might try is to raise the minimum font size in the browser Options/General Properties.

    Hope this helps

You need to add the language pack using desktop manager.

    It's there, I know I've seen it.

It should be included in the OS you are using. It's just not the default to have it installed automatically.

I also saw it there. On my 7290 I enabled Chinese and Korean language and it works so if you enable Hebrew it should work.

Thumbs up Re: Hebrew on BB browser (read: HELP)

    I DID IT!!!!
this is how i did it:
    1. i downloaded the OS for 8700v which i knew it could read hebrew websites.

    2. i i found the 'Semitic language support' .COD file. one part of the solution is to understand that RIM is calling hebrew and arabic for Semitic and has one file for both languages. i was only looking for a file with hebrew in it before that....

    3. i made an .alx file just like the one present for the korean language support and putted it in the '7100-v4.1.0.292_P1.8.0.144' folder.

    4. i putted the .COD file in the java folder.

    5. i ran the app loader, selected the Hebrew font, the device restarted, and Hurra !!!! i can see hebrew!!!!

i have just checked and i can read mails in hebrew and i guess that sms's too.

if anyone needs the cod files and more feel free to contact me.
BTW the hebrew is displayed correctly from right to left

I had the option to enable Semitic language support on my Pearl when I installed the newer OS. I know that with 4.2.0.42+ it's an option. Try installing the newest OS for your device and checking for Semitic language support during the install process when you select which modules you want.
