    Im interested in getting the golf gps application from golflogix, and am unsure of whether or not you need to pay for a data plan in order to use an application like that... its only like 45 a year, but i dont want to pay for a data plan that im not going to use most of the time.

    I believe that GPS will always require date, i.e., a data plan. I don't think it works on any phone without it.

    not necessarily.

    GoogleMaps and BBMaps require a data plan because they get their maps loaded OTA. If the golfing GPS app has the maps pre-loaded it might not need a data plan.

    IMHO you should contact the vendor and ask them.

    Good point, I guess. I'd be interested to know if any GPS can operate on a phone without a data plan. I thought it had to have it. I have a BB 8120 without a data plan and its GPS won't work AT ALL. I haven't tried an app like the golf one though.
