    google talk icon missing

    Hi everyone,

I installed google talk a while ago, then deleted it thinking i wouldn't use it, i used the instructions for a clean uninstall on RIM's site. or at least i think i did.

last night i noticed the app was still there so i erased it. and decided i want to try it out

i tried to install it again and theres no icon for it on my main screen.
the only service book i have installed for it is BBFS! [BBIMConfig]
    i have the modules:
    net_rim_qm_google
    net_rim_qm_google_resources

i've tried erasing all that, it doesn't prompt me to restart, i restart anyway, then register on the wireless network, reinstalled it, nothing, rinse repeat, tried both via usb on the site, and OTA

any help would be greatly appreciated.
you can pin me or email me or just reply to this or whatever

    thanks

Push yourself new service books. The icon will reappear and you can reinstall.

no, it looked to me like that only sends the service books for your email accounts.

If you've got the BBIM service book but no GoogleTalk icon, you'll need to download the application again using the download icon that should have appeared on your device.

Yes that's what I meant from the provider's website. Tmo, Verizon, etc, etc. We were informed that these are a part of the prosumer service books. Have you tried sending them to yourself?

I went to the place where you set up your email accounts and there is an option to send service books. I did that and I got confirmation emails for each of my email accounts I'm on Cingular if that helps

When you previously deleted G-Talk, did you only delete the application, or did you delete the modules as well?

I found that merely deleting the app did not fully remove everything.

You should view the modules, and find all the modules related to Google Talk, and delete those as well. (I believe that there are 3 in total.)

    Reboot.

    Then attempt to reinstall.

You will get the Google Talk service books by downloading the app ota from RIM. The BIS doesn't send the GT books.

yeah i didn't think so, it says in the terms or whatever that you can't contact your provider for support. i emailed rim support on it, we'll see if they help me.

thanks a lot for all your help

    Re: google talk icon missing

i'm sure this is no help and i don't mean to hijack the thread, but last night i tried to delete google talk using /options/advanced/applications. i didn't get an error message and the app disappeared from the list. but after a reboot it was still there, icon and all and still working just fine. but i don't see any modules or service book entries whatsoever. except for the desktop icon and the fact it's still working, there's no evidence it's installed.

what all do i need to look for and where and in what order to delete the app?

i'm 99% sure i installed ota so it's not on my desktop apps list.

    thanks,

    /guy

gteague, you need to go to Options/Advanced Options/Applications and open the Menu. Select Modules. Find and delete anything mentioning GoogleTalk. If you have Google Maps for Mobile, be careful not to delete anything related to that. After deleting the Modules, do a cold reboot (Battery Out, Wait 15 - 30 secs, Battery In).

    Hope this helps

thanks! i see now i can go into the properties and see which modules that it uses. should the modules be deleted separately before you delete the app from the list?

in any case, i just re-installed it ota and it's showing up in the applications list again and still working so i'm going to wait until i can get connected to my desktop and do a full backup before i try uninstalling it again.

    /guy
