My advice to someone looking for a new device is never buy from the service provider. Always go online and buy an unlocked phone if your GSM. GSM unlocked phones are easy to find. I look on tigerdirect.com, Amazon.com, cellphoneshop.com, yahoo shopping, etc. CDMA phones are a little harder because they are not unlockable so if your with say Verizon or Sprint, look for refurb. phones, not used phones because they could still be locked into a contract or stolen which means the service providers will not active them. Just a little advice. "Go online, go unlocked."

Be very careful when buying on-line. Read the contract requirements very well. I have heard no end of problems with long delays required to receive rebates and any changes in your features/phone contact may invalidate the rebate.

Just a word of warning to do what you should do anytime you sign a contract.
