Question Get Work email thru Gmail

    Hi,

I have searched high and low and cannot find an answer and am thinking that it just isn't possible so i am finally coming to ask the experts.

I use outlook at work and OWA from home to get my email from work. I do not have a blackberry plan but a generic plan. Internet/gmail/gps etc etc all work perfectly on my 8310.

I was wondering if its possible for me to get my work email on my blackberry. I mentioned gmail because i have the gmail app on my berry also and it works perfectly with my other email accounts.

BTW, i've tried to add a rule in outlook but the emails show being forwarded but nothing ever arrives on the other end. I've tried to add my OWA account settings in Gmail but always get error when trying to set it up.

    Thanks

    Sunny

You need a BB data plan for push email via BIS. Without BB data, you might be able to use OperaMini to log into gmail, but that would be an iffy workaround solution. Plus not professional when you replied as the response would have gmail as the return adresss.

It's very likely that your corporate Exchange admins have blocked the ability to automate externally forwarding all messages. It's a pretty common policy for most larger corporations. It will still appear you can configure rules to auto forward all messages but as you described, none of them will actually make it to your Gmail account.

Depending on your company's corporate firewall settings, you may be able to install the Blackberry redirector on your PC at work and have your messages forwarded that way with only a BIS plan (not sure about a non BB data plan), this only works if that PC is left powered on and on the internal network so won't be too useful if you have a laptop you take home at night.

... and with a BIS data plan, you should be able to configure the BIS to pick up your mail directly via OWA anyway. And that will give your replies the correct email address too. I use it all the time as one of the 10 allowable BIS accounts that can be set up.

I'm currently using BIS to push work e-mails to my device as we are also able to access our e-mail through OWA.

Other places I've just set up a filtered redirect to go directly to my BlackBerry e-mail account.

For me, an BIS account connected via OWA is definately not push. It's polled. The mails turn up on my BB ~15mins (albeit reliably) after they turn up in Outlook inbox.
