GETTING STARTED: SETTING UP YOUR BLACKBERRY
Step 1: Turn On Your BlackBerry Wireless Radio Connection
Note: Make sure you have inserted and charged your handheld battery before continuing. For details see the BlackBerry documentation on the software CD included with your handheld.
You must turn on the wireless radio connection before you can send and receive messages, place and answer phone calls, or browse the Web.
To turn on the wireless radio:
    1. Turn on your BlackBerry handheld by pressing the POWER key—the silver key with a sun icon on the lower-right corner of the device. The Home screen will appear. Note: The first time you turn on your handheld, it will take a moment for the device to initialize.
    2. Use the trackwheel to scroll to and click the Turn Wireless On icon. A radio tower represents the Turn Wireless On icon. (After you click this icon, it will change to the Turn Wireless Off icon.)

Before continuing, please make sure you're in an area with sufficient wireless coverage. You should see one or more bars near a 1X icon in the upper-right corner of the Home screen. If you do not see the 1X icon with one or more bars, please move to an area where there is better coverage.

Step 2: Activate Your Wireless Phone Service
Note: If you wish to transfer an existing phone number to your EarthLink Wireless phone, you must call us before proceeding. Please see the section below titled "To transfer your existing number to EarthLink Wireless."
To activate your phone, please complete the following steps:
    1. From the BlackBerry Home screen type *22890 and press the Enter key.2. Place the handheld to your ear and follow the audible instructions to complete the activation process. You can see your new wireless phone number anytime, by clicking on the Phone icon on your handheld (the 10-digit number will appear beside My Number at the top of the screen).3. Once your phone has been activated, you will receive an email message that confirms, "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network." Please continue with "Step 3: Set Up Your Email."
If you do not see this message within a few minutes, check the Home screen to ensure that you are within your coverage range. If you are within range, and do not receive this message, please manually register your handheld.
    To manually register your handheld:
    1. From the Home screen, click on the Options icon.2. Click on Network.3. Click the trackwheel, and scroll to and click on Register Now. If manually registering your handheld fails, please try again. If repeated attempts fail, please contact EarthLink Wireless Support at 1-888-304-2773.
To transfer your existing number to EarthLink Wireless:
Please call us at 1-888-304-2773 to begin the transfer.• Transferring a wireless phone number to your BlackBerry generally takes no more than one business day.• Transferring a landline phone number to your BlackBerry generally takes no more than five business days.
Note: Actual processing time may vary.
When you call EarthLink to initiate a phone number transfer, you will need to confirm the service provider information that you provided when you ordered EarthLink Wireless, as well as your handheld's ESN. The ESN can be found on the BlackBerry box, or by clicking the Options icon on your handheld, which is represented by either a wrench or a Swiss Army knife, depending on the phone model. Then scroll down and select Status. You will see your 11-digit ESN (dec) number (e.g., 07600034555).
Make sure the information you provide is correct. Incorrect or incomplete information can delay the transfer process.
DO NOT CANCEL YOUR EXISTING PHONE SERVICE UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION FROM EARTHLINK THAT YOUR TRANSFER HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
During the transfer process, you should be able to make calls from your new BlackBerry, including calls to 911. You will not be able to receive calls on your BlackBerry until the transfer is complete (this includes return calls from 911 personnel).
In addition, your ability to make and receive calls (including calls to and from 911) using your old phone may vary depending on the service provider you're switching from. As a result, you should maintain access to both your old phone and your new BlackBerry until the transfer is complete. When complete, you will no longer have service with your old provider, and you'll be able to make and receive calls using your BlackBerry.
You will receive an email from EarthLink notifying you when the transfer process is complete. Once you receive this email, continue with Step 2: Activate Your Wireless Phone Service.
WE RECOMMEND YOU CALL YOUR PREVIOUS WIRELESS PROVIDER ONCE YOU HAVE CONFIRMATION FROM EARTHLINK THAT YOUR TRANSFER HAS COMPLETED. ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE TERMINATED YOUR ACCOUNT AND REQUEST A FINAL BILL. THIS STEP MAY SAVE YOU FROM BILLING DISPUTES WITH YOUR PREVIOUS PROVIDER IN THE FUTURE.
For more information about Local Number Portability and transferring ("porting") your number to EarthLink Wireless, please visit www.earthlink.net/go/LNP/.

Step 3: Set Up Your Email
Choose how you want to receive your email on your BlackBerry handheld:
    • To receive email sent to your new earthlink.net email address, to a business email address, or to an address hosted by another Internet service provider (ISP), you will need to create a BlackBerry Web Client account. Complete Step 3a.
    • To extend a Microsoft Outlook® or Lotus Notes® corporate mailbox that has access to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server or to extend your Microsoft Outlook mailbox using the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, complete Step 3b.
A BlackBerry Enterprise Server includes both desktop software and Enterprise Server software that work together to seamlessly manage the link between multiple handheld devices and corresponding email accounts. Ask your administrator if you are unsure if you have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For more information, visit www.earthlink.net/wireless
    • To receive email from more than one type of account, including one using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Desktop Redirector, complete Step 3a followed by Step 3b.
Step 3a - Setting Up Your BlackBerry for Other Email Accounts
Create a BlackBerry Web Client Account
The EarthLink BlackBerry Web Client allows you to manage your EarthLink BlackBerry email account and preferences using a Web browser (like Internet Explorer) on a desktop computer. In this step, we will create an account that will allow you to access the Web Client.
To Create an EarthLink BlackBerry Web Client Account:
    1. From a desktop computer with an Internet connection, open a Web browser and type the following into the Address or Location bar: www.earthlink.net/go/bwc/.
    2. Click the Create New Account button. The Account Set-up screen will appear.
    3. Enter your PIN and ESN in the appropriate fields and click Submit.
Note: You can find your PIN and ESN on your handheld by clicking the Options icon, which is represented by either a wrench or a Swiss Army knife, depending on the phone model. Then scroll down and select Status. You will see your 8-digit PIN number. (e.g., 30027155) and your 11-digit ESN (dec) number (e.g., 07600034555).
    4. Read the terms of the BlackBerry Web Client Agreement. If you agree to the terms, click I Agree.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a unique User ID for your account. Write down your User ID and password, as you will need them to log in to the Web Client. The Web Client will assign an email address to your BlackBerry based on your User ID (for example, UserID@earthlink.blackberry.net). You can now receive email at this address.
    6. There are two ways to configure your BlackBerry to receive email from your earthlink.net or other email account:
    • Forward your email to your EarthLink BlackBerry email address.
Emails sent or forwarded to your EarthLink BlackBerry email address (UserID@earthlink.blackberry.net) will be delivered almost instantly. To forward your existing email to this new email address, contact your existing email provider.
EarthLink members can enable email forwarding by signing in to My Account. To do so, visit the following Web page: myaccount.earthlink.net.
    • Set up your BlackBerry to directly retrieve email from a different account
There may be a slight delay (up to 15 minutes) in delivering these messages to your handheld. Note: Email sent to or forwarded to your EarthLink BlackBerry email address will be delivered instantly.
To set up your BlackBerry to use your EarthLink (or another existing) email address:

    Using EarthLink Protection Tools
    EarthLink spamBlocker
EarthLink spamBlocker helps you block almost all junk email messages before they can reach your account.
To take advantage of EarthLink's spamBlocker, our powerful anti-spam feature, you will need to configure your EarthLink email address (username@earthlink.net). Your EarthLink email address can be found on the welcome letter you received when you ordered EarthLink Wireless. For more information about how to configure spamBlocker, visit the following Web page: http://www.earthlink.net/software/fr...mblocker/tour/.
To extend spamBlocker's protection to your BlackBerry, make sure your earthlink.net email address is being forwarded to the email address assigned to your BlackBerry (UserID@earthlink.blackberry.net). See Step 3a.
If you've configured your BlackBerry to receive email from another account, you will need to instead forward that account to your earthlink.net email address in order to get spamBlocker protection. Contact your existing email provider for help forwarding your email.
Tip: You can forward email from other ISP or corporate accounts to your earthlink.net email address to get spamBlocker protection on email from those accounts.
    EarthLink Virus Blocker
Email is the most common way that computer viruses, Trojan horses, worms, and other malicious software can infect your PC. That's why EarthLink members should be sure to activate our free EarthLink Virus Blocker email scanning system. Using technology from Symantec™ Corporation, Virus Blocker automatically scans all your incoming email messages for viruses, and removes them before they can cause any trouble.
    How does Virus Blocker work?
Virus Blocker will scan every incoming email message to an activated earthlink.net email account and clean your messages or attachments to remove any viruses, when possible. If the message cannot be cleaned, it is quarantined online.*
To take advantage of EarthLink Virus Blocker, our powerful antivirus feature, you will need to configure your EarthLink email address (username@earthlink.net). Your EarthLink email address can be found on the welcome letter you received when you ordered EarthLink Wireless.
To extend Virus Blocker's protection to your BlackBerry, make sure your earthlink.net email address is being forwarded to the email address assigned to your BlackBerry (UserID@earthlink.blackberry.net). See Step 3a.
If you've configured your BlackBerry to receive email from another account, you will need to instead forward that account to your earthlink.net email address in order to get Virus Blocker protection. Contact your existing email provider for help forwarding your email.
    To turn on Virus Blocker:
    1. From any computer with an Internet connection, open a Web browser and type the following into the Address or Location bar: http://webmail.earthlink.net.2. Sign in using your EarthLink email address (username@earthlink.net) and password.3. Click on Preferences at the bottom left of the page.4. Under Email Handling Preferences, click Virus Blocker.5. Click the Turn ON Virus Blocker button.
To see your quarantined messages, log in to EarthLink Web Mail by going to webmail.earthlink.net and clicking on the Virus Blocker folder. This folder only appears in your Web Mail folder listing if you have quarantined email.
It just takes a minute to activate Virus Blocker. After that, we'll keep our scanning system updated and running on our servers. There's nothing else you need to do!
Tip: You can forward email from other ISP or corporate accounts to your earthlink.net email address to get Virus Blocker protection on those accounts.

And you have to run FAST. I tried to cancel my email account with them awhile back; and I don't know how many times they tried to talk me out of it. I just kept saying, "I WANT TO CANCEL MY EMAIL ACCOUNT."

They are almost as bad as AOL!
