    E-mail Filter Help & more

First off, thanks for such a great forum!

I just purchased my first BB yesterday (a CDMA 8330 w/ VZW), and am working to get things set up. I have successfully set up my 2 e-mail addresses, but I am looking for a method to filter what gets sent to my BB – on my Gmail account, I belong to a mailing list that averages 50 messages a day, and I would really like to avoid getting these messages on my BB if at all possible. They are already set up in a filter on Gmail to label them and bypass the inbox putting them in a separate folder, but they still show up in the inbox on my BB. I can’t find any anything to allow me to set up filters on the device, so I’m a little lost.

Also, is there a way with BIS to change my signature line? Also, I seem to remember reading something on here about needing to delete e-mails off the BIS server as well as off my phone – is that true? If so, how would I go about doing that?

Finally, I’m trying to find a good & free IM program, primarily for AIM. It seems like Ramble is the suggested way to go – am I right? Also, I would really like to set up IRC on the phone – is that possible? It’s an everywherechat hosted room that I’m primarily interested in...

Well, I guess those are all of my questions for the moment – any & all help/advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dale

    * My only other question is if anyone has any specific suggestions for free software that would be especially useful – also any accessories that you find you can’t live without.

    Thanks again!

Your gmail account is set up in the BIS, correct? If so, you should be able to set up filters on the BIS to keep mails from forwarding to your handset.

You can also change the signature line for each e-mail address by editing each e-mail account on the BIS.

You can set your device to delete e-mails on the device and the e-mail account inbox at the same time, or on the device only. Open a message folder, go to Options>Email Reconciliation and change the settings per account in here.

I don't personally use it, but lots of folks here highly recommend Jivetalk, although it is not free.

    Welcome to Pinstack!

You will find the info you need on the gmail filter in my blog with easy to follow steps. The same web site where you take care of that, is where you can edit your signature.

Not a big IM guy so I will leave that one to someone with more IM time!

I've only set up from my BB - haven't logged into BIS through a browser, and honestly don't know how to do so - can you give me some direction & I'll see if I can figure it out once I can get logged in?

    Thanks!

You may need to change your log in to allow internet log in to your BIS site. Again, there is a nice How To on this in my blog as well. Did you review the gmail thread? It gives pretty clear How To access your BIS - post back if you need more help and please advice your provider.

    Nice work, Gary.

I posted a link to those instructions a couple of times, but it's great of you to have it in a central location!

FYI, I just used the instructions to set up my work e-mail to push to my BlackBerry. I was using a rule in Outlook to redirect, but thanks to the instructions and remembering that I can access my work e-mail via Outlook Web Access, I decided to try setting that up in the BIS. Works like a charm!

Thanks again for posting that, Gary!

I’ve got my Gmail set up wonderfully, but my work e-mail (which was set up this morning) is no longer working. I switched to username/password on my BB so that I can log in to BIS on the web – apparently for some reason this has killed my work e-mail address (using OWA), and I can’t get it validated – it keeps erroring out even though I am 99% sure that what I’m typing is correct. I’ve tried resetting it up, both on my phone & on the web, and I can’t get it validated either way.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks for your help!

    ~ Dale

    dh,

When you first logged into your BIS did you see the OWA account listed? How did you set it up the first time? Also are you using the OWA instructions or the same steps as you did for your gmail account?

Those are the steps you should use to set up the OWA, dh.

DO NOT use the OWA setup instructions.

sort of both. when I first logged into the web-based BIS, I did see it listed (I still do), but it has a little red circle w/ a line through it (like a no-smoking sign) and says that it can't be validated. when I click on it, it tells me that it couldn't be validated, and asks me if I would like to validate now. I try, but it comes back again saying that some of the information must be wrong because it still can't be validated.

I think that I used the OWA instructions to set it up, although they really all start the same. I know that I have entered my OWA web address, mailbox name, password, etc...

I'm a little lost as to why it can't be validated, and even more at a loss as to why it would have worked fine before I changed the phone to use web-based BIS, and now I can't get push from that same e-mail that was pushing literally minutes before.

I'm sure I'm not answering everything in the best way possible - I apologize, but I'm very new to the BB - definitely still learning and making progress, but a little frustrated right now...

    Thanks again!
