    Do the BB's actually charge to 100%?

    Advertisement

    I'm recharging my BB right now after fully draining it for the first time, and I'm wondering if it will actually go up to 100% on status? I know with the previous series (I had the 8703e) it would only go up to 95% which is where it is at now for me.

    Mine goes up to 100%. Is there a reason you let it drain?

    Mine does too. No need to drain fully on the battery as it doesn't have memory. I've been very happy with the battery life on my curve.

    I just got the phone...

    When you get a new battery, it is best to charge it all the way up, then drain it all the way. They say you should do this a couple times and your battery will be good to go.

    More enthusiasts like to do this once a month... and it is good for the battery.

    Actually, not true and it is actually not good for the battery to do so. With the lithium ion batteries in BB's it isn't necessary. See this for more info on that:

    Re: Do the BB's actually charge to 100%?

    On general grounds, it is NOT good to drain a battery completely. Do not confuse this with keeping a battery unused -- which is also not good.

    Charging it up too fast is also not good -- some automobile lighter-socket chargers seem to be doing this.

    [You might ask, what, if anything, IS good for a battery then?

    Answer: nothing. It is doomed to eventual failure ]

    ^^Right. As linked above, follow that thread and you will see exactly why. Other cell phone batteries utilize the old school type called Nickel Cadmium. This is the type of battery that needs to be cycled - charged/discharged for maximum performance. Doing so to a BB battery is pointless and is NOT going to increase the life of the battery at all. Like gkast1 says....YES it is just doomed to eventually fail, like all batteries

    As an early BlackBerry user put it,

    "For the glass of the years is brittle
    wherein we gaze for a span;
    A little soul for a little
    props up this corpse which is man..."

    Oh... batteries die...we die...

    No sense not having a good time on the way

    Ah! Swinburne also predicted the iPhone:

    "New Gods are crowned in the city; their flowers have broken your rods;
    They are merciful, clothed with pity, the young compassionate Gods."

    ok from all the research i have done across the web i have concluded that it is fine to cycle the battery a few times you have 700-900 cycles to use anyway...

    it is also a good idea to cycle the battery, when new, 2 or 3 times to help it recognize where its energy limits are. it is also good practice to cycle the battery once a month or so to reset the battery meter on the phone and on the chip on the battery. you dont want your phone to say that you have no power left and the battery's chip only says your down to a quarter do you?

    every battery needs some type of maintenance and this is what i suggest for all Li Ion batteries of any kind.

    yes all batteries will eventually fail but it is not a just cause to completely ignore them.
