Thumbs down BRICKED my Bold when attempting to upgrade OS! :(((((((((

So it happened. I've done dozens of these on both OS 4.5 and OS 4.6. This one didn't go through.

I did both a separate backup, AND, as I always do, I let the upgrade backup everything, before it deletes all the apps.

The backup went fine (the 2nd one, the one part of the would-be OS upgrade), it deleted all apps as usual, and then stuck. Done. I have a Bold sitting next to my laptop with its LED flashing red twice really fast, pauses for 2 secs., and rinse and repeat.

Now what...Did I do irreparable damage to it? Any attempt to revive it by reconnecting it to DM 4.6 failed, and the PIN is not even recognized anymore.

I had it tricked out so nicely, and today, I actually got rid of a LOT of apps that I didn't need/use, so as to free up space.

I was trying to upgrade from .210 to the just "released" .219. I forgot to deleted the vendor.xml file, just for the record. Forgetting to delete it had never presented any problems, so I'm not so sure that it was the culprit.

Maybe also interesting to note that is the fact that I was doing all of this on my Windows 7 64-bit beta OS. lol...everything beta...but it worked before. I'm just trying to think of everything that might be important to note.

I want to say that I remember a thread titled "What to do if..." ...basically what happened here to my BlackBerry.

Can anyone please help...what do I do??

Thank you very much for your insight, everyone. Damn it...I almost didn't do it, as .210 was working so well. But enough of Monday-morning quarterbacking...

    Dude,

Take a look at this thread for starters, it sounds like it addresses your issue:
How To Re-Install OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected

I must admit that I would probably try to restore on a machine that was not running the beta OS....

It was not only super easy, but super fast as well. Still perfect record for upgrading OS's. Now 25 for 25.

The only thing you need to watch for is flashing red lights on the device when it won't boot up. Everything else is fixable through an appload one way or another

Flashing Red lights indicate hardware errors
May the BlackBerry be with you....Always!!
