BlackBerry Smart Card Readers - Can you help?

    Hi BB fans!

I have 25 BlackBerry's deployed as part of a trial I am running. The trial is going well and I am now required to test out 7 BB SCR's with some of my users. Herein lies the problem....

    The Handsets are a mix of 7130, 8100, 8300, 8700, 8800, and 8820 models.
    BES version 4.1.x
Handsets running 4.2.1.68 software or similar.
    SCR's running 4.2.0.75 software
    SCR's all on firmware 1.5.0.61
    SafeNet 330 smarcards.
SafeNet Smartcards driver 1.0.0 loaded on handsets and SCR's.
    No S/MIME package.

I can pair succesfully with the SCR's with no issues but when i try to import the certificates from the SCR or use it in any way i get the following message:

"Press the action button on your BlackBerry Smart Card Reader and type the reader ID shown on the display"

I then type the correct ID and get the following message:

"Unable to connect to your BlackBerry Smart Card Reader. Please veriify that the reader is turned on and that you have correctly specified the reader ID."

i hit retry and it then loops back to the first message and then to the second message.

BB support have not been able to advise me how to remedy this so far.

I have tried different handsets and different handset models.

I don't mean to be rude but I am not really looking for advice from anyone who is not specifically experienced in the use of SCR's. I reckon that this is a very specialised problem and have tried a large number of generic fixes. I have tried the simple and usual stuff and am at a loss.

Any help gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Re: BlackBerry Smart Card Readers - Can you help?

welcome to PinStack. I can't find much on this.

    See the user guide:
    http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...+Started+Guide

    Also try:
    1. Clear the secure pairing key on the BlackBerry device.

If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.0 or 4.0.2, click BlackBerry Smart Card Reader in the BlackBerry device Options.

If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1, complete the following steps in the BlackBerry device Options:

    1. Click Security Options.
    2. Click Smart Card.
    2. Under Registered Reader Drivers, click BlackBerry.
    3. Click Driver Settings.
    4. Click Re-key. You are prompted to type the new secure pairing key.
    5. On the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader, press the Action button.
    6. On your BlackBerry device, type the number that appears on the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader.

grayberry, welcome to PinStack! Your info says you have a Nexus One. You might want to try posting your issue in one of the Android forums where you're more likely to get assistance.

Hi RogerG, no, I'm not having the problem with my Nexus One, sorry for the confusion...

On a specific 4.2 device I'm calling CryptoSmartCardUtilities.importCertificates which triggers the PIN exchange with the SCR, but the user gets "“Unable to connect your BlackBerry smart card. Please verify that the reader is turned on, that you have entered the correct reader ID, and haven’t already paired the reader with another unit.”.

I'm at a loss and was wondering whether therealrob resolved his problem.

Well, the posts are nearly three years old and therealrob hasn't posted on the forums since, so I hope someone else can chime in to help you.

Need to keep an eye on the post dates and the user profiles by clicking on the username>View Profile.
