I'm not a member yet but I decided to go ahead and finally sign up. ... General Blackberry forum
BlackBerry Owners Lounge
I'm not a member yet but I decided to go ahead and finally sign up. Well they want my IMEI. Ontop of my cell number and service provider they want my IMEI? Why do they need this? I can't sign up unless I get it, but as far as I know the IMEI is a phone's personal identity, like an ss# to a person. Why do they want this, and will me giving it to them highten my chances of hackers hacking my phone? Anyone have Berry Lounge and can vouch for them?
It's not an iPhone addiction, it's insomnia!

They ask for that just to be sure that you do own a Blackberry. It keeps the "lurkers" out from getting into the forums and downloading exclusive content. Judging that RIM is a big company I'm sure their servers are well protected but even if hackers got in and grabbed some imeis, I haven't heard of hacking any bbs through knowing some imeis. If you're worried, do not sign up. I did but I'm not worried.
Whoa! It's also another way to keep spammers and so on from actually joining! It's a for real site, I too am a member! So don't worry about it...The number is already known by your carrier & RIM!
The Owner's Lounge is worth joining!!

Reason: add on
Owner's Lounge is exclusive for cool people only. Lol just kidding.
When registered I did a typo on my IMEI - unintentional - d'oh ;D
I haven't had any negative issues since joining the Owner's lounge
I've been a member since I got my BB and have never had a problem. As was mentioned earlier, your carrier and RIM already have the IMEI, and the Owner's Lounge is actually a part of RIM's site so no worries....
