    Blackberry IRC client

I'm suprised there are no Blackberry IRC clients? For example something similar to Jivetalk which uses the Blackberry data connection. This would be absolutely great.

Does anyone know if there are any in development?

    Re: Blackberry IRC client

There are already IRC clients for BlackBerry.

Check out the one from pinstack.com or Jmirc.

    Re: Blackberry IRC client

The problem with Jmirc is that I have to use a VPN which means that it uses a connection which I have to pay per MB for. But the Blackberry browser and Jivetalk I get for free because they don't need VPN settings meaning it uses the Blackberry connection which I have unlimited useage.

I'll check out this pinstack.com one, I just found it and didn't know there was such one.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I have unlimited data and use the IRC client from here. Much better than the JMIRC client.

I just tried the pinstack IRC client, seemed nice but you can't change server?

Ah I just tried WLIrc the standard version. I just realised the one on this site is a pinstack.com version so doesn't let you change server.

I'm using Jmirc and that APN thing doesn't effect my data plan as this traffic is also included. Shouldn't it be the same for you?

    Re: Blackberry IRC client

Hmm well even when I did use Jmirc I would lose connection every hour or so. But I'm using WLIrc 1.01 now and it's working great so far. Been online all day with no disconnection. So I think I'm content with this.

Also Opera Mini definately costs me money because I have to input APN settings for that. It's a shame, but I don't really web browse, just simple things like checking the latest news headlines, so the Blackberry Browser suffices.

Thanks for the replies sascha and Erica

    Re: Blackberry IRC client

If I have a unlimited data plan, would providing APN setting cost me extra money?
What is APN settings mean and how can I find out if my carrier is going to charge me extra for that?

I am on T-Mobile UK with web-n-walk package.

    Thanks

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I think you mean APN? I have that set as wap.voicestream.com, but I'm on TMobile USA with Unlimited BIS.

You should be able to get the correct setting from TMo UK.

Both clients are limited to 11 chars for password. There should not be a limit since security can be an issue sometimes.

The Pinstack IRC client is just a preconfigured WLIrc v1 client, they actually have a version 2 beta available, as well as the original version, on sourceforge.net.

    WLIrc SourceForge Project Page

WLIrc 2.0 is based on java midp 2.0, which means it has more features than wlirc 1.0 because of the limitations of the midp 1.0 api.

WLIrc 1 is based on java midp 1.0, which means its compatible with more devices.
