    Blackberry & Tmobile Service

I just bought a blackberry 7290 from Tmobile in the US, but according to the sales person I spoke with, I'll have to get a $20 data plan? Is this right? Is there a way to bypass this? I already have a $60 plan with them and don't want to add the extra $20 since am not going to be on the internet all the time - maybe once a day. Also, is there a way to transfer pictures from your computer? I have the recent desktop software but I get errors each time I click the media option. I suppose this is another restriction from Tmobile?

To surf the internet you are going to need the BB data plan.

I do not know on the 7290, but there are third party programs that might allow you to move pictures straight from the PC to the BB.

No BB dataplan, no Internet, no email. All you have is a big phone.

You will need data to use this due to the fact it is e-mailed to you.

Why get a BB and no Data. Like said above, it is an overly sized phone, and there is no point to having it. The $20.00 and having your personal and or business e-mail connected has made me more productive. I no longer check my e-mail at work or at home cause I got it in my palm of my hand :=)

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~no point in having a BB w/o data service.besides then you wouldn't get a chance to talk to all of us as much

Not if you want anything other than SMS and voice calls. Do you really get to choose whether or not you pay for other services and goods that you use? I don't understand why people think data should be free... I pay $110 for my voice service. I guess I should get $40 in free data services according to your reasoning??

Seriously, though, TMO has the lowest Blackberry data rates of all carriers out there. I pay $45/month for BES data access (plus hosted BES fees) with Cingular so you're not going to get any sympathy from me... If you can't afford a data plan with TMO you might want to go with a more bare bones wireless device or deal with not having data at all.

Yeesh... not this again. The OP's situation doesn't fit but there are plenty of people who happily use their Blackberries without data plans. A data plan, thankfully, isn't mandatory but it does greatly increase the usefulness of the BB. However, just because you don't see a point in a BB without a data plan doesn't mean that there isn't one.

I agree you should have the choice. However as stated previously, the data features are what makes the BB. Trust me it will be money well spent. You won't remember how you lived without it.

I went the first couple of weeks w/o the Data Plan, and then got it. It was like having a different device with all the capabilities!!!!!!

$20 for a data plan... wow... try getting data service from Rogers in Ontario. $60 for 25Mb! The only cheaper data plan has only 1.5Mb which I would smoke through in a few days.
