    BB Maps for OS 4.3?

    Advertisement

    Anyone know how to make BB Maps work for the 4.3 OS (AT&T)? I knew how to alter the LBS.alx file in the 4.2 OS but 4.3 is completely different!

    I am paying AT&T for Telenav so it really pisses me off that they block it, as there are times I really like using BB Maps!!

    (Before anyone asks, yes I have Google Maps, but it doesn't replace BB Maps IMHO)

    Open the LBS.alx and scroll down until you see a string similar to the following:

    <!-- For 8800 series, hide the icon for Cingular (102), Vodafone Germany (124), Vodafone Austria (137) and all
    Orange properties. --><fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0"[/b] _vendorID="~102|124|137|119|162|142|183|147|217"
    series="8800"[/b]>
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_ribbon.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    <!-- For non-8800 series, show the icon for all carriers except Vodafone Germany (124), Vodafone Austria (137) and all Orange properties. -->
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0"[/b]series="8800"[/b]>
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_internal_gps.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_en.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    Remove all references to “_vendorID=…..” and device codes. Remove the text in bold as shown above and leave the > symbol at the end.

    The above code would be changed to the following:
    <!-- For 8800 series, hide the icon for Cingular (102), Vodafone Germany (124), Vodafone Austria (137) and all Orange properties. -->
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_ribbon.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    <!-- For non-8800 series, show the icon for all carriers except Vodafone Germany (124), Vodafone Austria (137) and all Orange properties. -->
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_internal_gps.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_en.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    Save the file (as the same name) when you are done.

    That's the problem! With the 4.3 OS LBS file, there are NO references to Cingular (102), etc.!

    Here is my LBS.alx file - after removing all the references to other languages:

    <loader version="1.0">
    <application id="net.rim.java.maps">
    <name>BlackBerry Maps</name>
    <description>Mapping Application for BlackBerry</description>
    <version>2.0.26</version>
    <vendor>Research In Motion</vendor>
    <copyright>Copyright (c) 2005-2007 Research In Motion</copyright>
    <directory SystemSize="normal">Java</directory>
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Colour="True" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs.cod
    net_rim_bb_lbs_api.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    <fileset SystemSize="normal" Java="1.0">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_en.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>
    </application>
    </loader>

    I see in the Vendor.xml file that AT&T is referred to as the following:
    <vendor id="0x66" Name="AT&amp;T">
    But there is nothing that references that id either!

    I guess there must be a different file somewhere that references the vendor codes? I'm going to look in the other .alx files and see if anything stands out. If anyone has any thoughts - I'd be most grateful!
