Battery with red line when upgrading OS

While upgrading the OS, my Pearl shut down and now it only shows the Battery with red line through it. It has not been wet, was charged and was working fine up until I started the upgrade. Nothing's working to take this off, including taking the battery out and plugging the Pearl into the USB port, it just stays on the screen. Any help would be appreciated here, thanks.

    Beazer

Sorry you are having problems. By any chance is there any error code on the screen?

First thing to do is try again to install the OS. PLease also note that some of these can be quite lengthy. It is possible that your install was still in progress, do you recall what the status was on the PC Screen? In any event I would caution you to be patient as we try again. If you continue to have issues you may find this thread helpful:

I left the battery out for some time and now the status light in the corner is just blinking red twice over and over. I've got it plugged into the USB port with the battery out and it isn't finding it to try to reinstall. Neither choice under options in the desktop finds it either.

During the upgrade the BB itself seemed to shut down during the "Erasing...." procedure

Sounds like you need to try the proceedure in N8's post I linked to.."device not recognized"

Make sure your USB is connected directly to your Desktop and not thru a hub.

Plugged straight into the laptop. I went through and it didn't find the BB, but now it's showing the right things in the communication screen. I re-strated the App Loaders and it's working now, so at least there's some progress. The BB itself has a solid red light and just popped the battery and red line screen back up though.

That's the procedure I've been trying to use with it. At least I have another phone to use in the meantime.

It runs through then says it's unable to connect during the multi-staging process.

Re: Battery with red line when upgrading OS

Can you please post back where in the process below your install is failing:

    1. Install the desktop software.
    2. Install the handheld software. (If it is a non Vendor software.. exp. T-Mobile. search and delete the "vendor.xml" file.)
    3. Pull the battery out of your device.
    4. With the battery out connect the device to the computer.
    5. Go to Options and select "connection settings"
    6. Select USB PIN this may take a few moments since there is no battery in the device. you might even have to select detect device in some rare cases.
    7. Select the application loader icon.
    8. Select all software you want installed.
    9. Proceed to the end portion untill you see the "Finish" button.
    10. Very IMPORTANT. do not hit the finish button, instead select the ADVANCED button.
    11. Make sure both boxes are checked.
    12. Proceed until it asks you if you want to automatically back up and restore. Select DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP MY HANDHELD.
    13. Once the process starts. take care not to bump out the cord and re-insert the battery. Again on some rare occasions you might have to wait until it finishes saying connect to insert the battery.

THIS MAY FAIL THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME DONT WORRY JUST KEEP TRYING.

If you do not get it by the 3rd time.. download the Blackberry java developers kit and install it. once installed find the javaloader.exe file and move it into the c:\ directory

Once it is under the c:\, go to start then run and type. cmd.exe

After the command prompt apears type in "c:\javaloader -usb wipe" to wipe the handheld

*The reason I have highlighted Step 13 is that this is very important to do BEFORE the DM tries to re-start your device because it WILL NOT re-intialize your device IF THE BATTERY IS NOT IN YOUR DEVICE.

And in the "just in case" department...here is the link to DL the Java loader utility to perform a total wipe of your handheld:

It's finding the BB, just doesn't connect to it. Only shows the battery and red line on the screen no matter how many times I try to run it.

The point where the re-install stops is "Reconnecting to JVM" It sits for a few minutes then says it's unable to reconnect...screen still shows battery with red line.
