    Question backlight issue

    Hi all,

new to this. My BB pearl 8130 seems to be randomly dimming to about 60%. I check the backlight settings and it's always listed at 100%. Can't seem to find any pattern or reason why it dims itself. The level of backlight when it occurs is to dim to really work. No combination of buttons seems to brighten it back to 100%. Defective unit? ATT store said bring it back as it is only 27 days old, but I have uploaded client servers and things I don't want to re-do. appreciate the help

Sounds like your "automatic backlight" is enabled.
    options > screen/keyboard > auto backlight.

You can turn this off to keep the screen the same brightness at all times. If auto backlight is enabled, the screen automatically dims and brightens according to your surrounding light (screen dims in darker areas, brightens in areas where there is more light, etccc)

    Re: backlight issue

it seems like it works like this: (and i had a 8100 so i know how it used to be)

something i have seen which simulates auto-dim....

when in bright light the 8130 seems to "gain up" the screen to like 120%. try shining a light into the sensor to the right of the earphone.

if not in bright light, the screen will stay at the preset screen setting (in tools) (try the trick with the flashlight to see what the 120% looks like) all the time without auto-dimming IF autodimming is turned off.

so there seems to be a difference between "gaining up" in BRIGHT light and auto-dimming.

to test it, just cover up the sensor with your thumb as you change the screen settings

    Re: backlight issue

The desktop manager and media manager software seem really clunky. I've also noticed that there are albums that I see on the software but that aren't actually in the phone. Can't seem to delete things either. Common problems? Is there a great software program that makes managing the music in the phone easy?
    thanks

The backlight issue was solved by the earlier responses. They were dead right. I bailed the pearl and bought the curve. suretype was not for me.

Any ideas on the best management software for music?
