" An account already exist for this PIN"
My friend bought three new 8100 devices, they are from O2 uk, Vodafone UK and Orange UK.
To check if the PIN/IMEI are valid, I visited RIM website
then connect to O2 uk, Vodafone UK and Orange UK e-mail account links, then I enter into "creat new account".
when I typed IMEI/PIN from the back of each device, two of them come with the notice " An account already exist for this PIN" and one with " you device has not registered with network yet..." (I am sure this PIN is workable)
(When I typed the IMEI/PIN, I didn't turn on my device and connect to wireless network. But I don't think these two different results were related to this action. )
what's the problem? Does that mean the provider didn't release the PIN or worse?
any other websites/ways to check if the IMEI/PIN are valid?
Need urgent help! Thanks so much!
if they were purchased used, the previous owner didn't release the pin from their BIS.
you may be able to call and have the carrier release it.
should work after that
were they purchased used?

I am confused about the notice " An account already exist for this PIN", does that mean an e-mail account exist for this PIN or BIS account exist for this pin???
If they were flagged as lost/stolen, how to do?
or if the PIN was stolen and cloned by anybody and he used it first, what can I do? If the device was at this status, different notice would be came out when I typed PIN/IMEI to creat an account??
Do you know any other websites to check IMEI/PIN?
Thanks so much.
I actually don't think it was anything nearly so sinister. This is a common issue with used devices. The PIN still shows as registered on the original account. The easiest solution is to have the original owner contact his carrier to release the PIN. If you are on the same carrier this is often not necessary and simply entering the PIN in your BIS account will take care of it. If you cannot contact the original owner, this has to be pursued through the registered carrier, or through RIM.
exactly, what GaryF just said is the way you have to do. Its a common issue. (btw GaryF i dont think i congratulated you on becoming a Mod - Congrats!)
Thanks for your information.

(We don't have BIS here in China,I can't check by my BB) I worry that my IMEI/PIN were cloned and registered BIS account before it was sold out. if so, can I call RIM to register my device???
Someone at another forum made a test ,
" Trun on 2 devices with same imei/pin at the same time, the first one can connect to BIS but the second can't. Turn off the first one and turn on the second one, the second one still can't connect to BIS. So he assume the BIS record the first device BSN to verifiy which one is the first to register."
I am confused now...
