I just got my blackberry pearl a couple of days ago. It is my first blackberry so I'm still trying to figure out. My question is can I get AIM on my Pearl with out having internet access on it? And if so, how?

    Re: AIM

I believe the BBmessenger or OZ whatever comes installed uses SMS instead of data. If you do some searches on pinstack you'll find the answer too I believe, there's been a few posts on this.

Also if you register your cellphone at aim.com it uses text messages as well.

Should probably look to addon the internet plan for 19.99 it'll do wonders to your phone!

Ramble IM uses Data, and if you dont have the internet plan, you cannot use it.

    Re: AIM

Aim is in the OZ application which comes preloaded on pearl and it uses SMS (So standard text message rates apply, and use with caution if you dont have a plan with good SMS rates youre bound to go over)

    Re: AIM

The sad part is you do have to have DATA or BIS for the preinstalled oZ messenger to work... It dos use SMS data for the messages and such but also logs into the BIS sever..
about the BB messenger question - there are multi threads about just how it works and how it works try that little search button up top and you will be amazed...

    Re: AIM

BB Messenger requries data. If you do not have a BlackBerry Data plan BlackBerry Messenger will not work.

So should I just go ahead and get the Data Plan? It seems like it's a must have

I think you should get the data plan alec. You will be much happier, and the possibilities with the data plan are endless.

    Re: AIM

If you have a Blackberry without a Blackberry Internet Service plan... why even get a Blackberry? A regular phone will do the same thing. The BIS is definitely a must have to use.

Hi alecsz, just wanted to tell you to ignore the people who tell you to search. While it can be helpful, we at Pinstack understand it can be overwhelming also.

So if you have a question you want to post to the forums, you are more than welcome to do so.
