    8700 n00b question :(

I know you guys can help me, i'm lost.

I just bought an unlocked t-mobile 8700. I'm using it on the Rogers (Canada) network. Currently the OS on the Blackberry is 4.1.2. I downloaded the Desktop Manager 4.2 Service Pack 2 and I installed it. Once I plug in the blackberry it recognizes it but it doesn't update the OS version. I can back up and restore my files and stuff but how do I get the software to update the OS version on the phone?

Did you download and install the 4.2 Handheld OS? I'm guessing that's the version you want on your Blackberry.

    glehman85, thanks for your help.

When I click on your link, it takes me to a software download page for 'Proximus'. Does it matter which provider file I download?

Also, from the drop down list I choose 'Blackberry Desktop Software 4.2'

    right?

You can select the 8700v from the dropdown. Then it gives you a link for the Handheld software v4.2. That's the one you want to download and install. It should work just fine on your 8700. Hardware-wise, all 8700's are 99% the same. Of course excluding the 8707 and the 8705.

They're 100% the same unless that 1% refers to the plastic shell and the keyboard.
