    7520 to 7100 Upgrade Nightmare

I have a new 7100i. Backed up my old 7520 and tried a restore to the new 7100. Most compatible items came accross except for my 400+ address contacts.

"Cannot backup or restore the following database: Address Book. The data was not recognized by the device."

I assume this is due to the OS version of the 7520 was 4.1.0.273 and the 7100 is at the latest version (for the 7100) of 4.1.0.136. I thought I had a clever work around last week by downloading my address book into a clean Outlook contacts list then using a 7520 with an older OS version uploading using Intellisync and then Backing up the handheld. The 7100 took the restored Address Book.......... until this morning. The unit locked up. Pulled the battery, waited 30 seconds and put it back together. No addresses at all. In fact, the address book has an "X" through it. Every time I reboot I get these three messages:

Uncaught exception: Process net_rim_bb_addressbook_app(107) killed due to message queue overflow.

Uncaught exception: Process net_rim_bb_addressbook_app(104) killed due to message queue overflow.

    Uncaught exception: -1

Hoping my "back door" method did not screw it up.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Re: 7520 to 7100 Upgrade Nightmare

    as for the overflow issue:

    Problem

You receive the following error message:

Process [ApplicationName] killed due to message queue overflow
    Cause

An application is blocking the main event thread.

The main event thread processes system messages. Blocking this thread will prevent system messages from being processed and can lead to a message queue overflow.

Because there is a finite amount of storage for messages, the issue is caused when these messages are not being processed. If an application stops processing messages for a long period of time, the system assumes that the application is unresponsive and is no longer functioning as expected. This is the reason why the process has been killed.
    Resolution

Move long processes or processes that block to a separate background thread. In other words avoid the address book for now. Maybe you can use advanced backup afterwards and restore contacts seperate. Or if also in Outlook, delete contacts from old handheld restore all other info then sync contacts via Outlook.

We use a Lotusnotes BES. I keep an Outlook contacts list available for use with the Intellisync (for ease of setup with new users). The Outlook address book is set up with our office directory installed. This is the first unit that would not take a backup or the default Outlook list.

    I wouldn't call going from a 7520 to a 7100 an upgrade!

ok here is how I transfer my address book:
plug in your 7520, start desk top manager...click back up/restore...click advanced...on right box click on address book...click arrow pointing to the left...this will transfer the address book to the box on the left side...do the same for any other info you want to transfer...don't close anything just unplug your 7520...plug in your 7100i...click the address book in the left box...click the arrow pointing to the right...you will get a warning making sure you want to...click ok...it will transfer...click refresh at the bottom of the box on the right...do all that you have transfered...when finished click close...hope this helps when I get borde with one phone I switch back and forth all the time...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~starting to lean your way Paintchip.

Your method usually works Bruiser. It kept telling me it could not read the database on the 7100. Hopefuly it was just a bad unit.

    Thanks Kmccarthy

I just hate not having a QWERTY keyboard.

Smile Re: 7520 to 7100 Upgrade Nightmare (Address Book)

Goodmorning Everyone. Nextel sent me a new 7100i. Still does not like my address book.

Tried an advanced restore..."The data was not recognized by the device"
Tried Intellisync with Outlook contacts..."Unable to write or update application data"

Once this occurs, the address book icon disappears. I go to "show all". The icon is there with an X through it.

-usb wipe and then start over.

I will go back to the 7520 before I input 300+ contacts into a non-QWERTY unit. There must be a way to recover my address book.
