im confused?? why is anyone insterested in 3G? Ive tried this service in the UK before joining Blackberry and to be truthful if was beyond C**P . Here the service providers have made it out to be the next biggest thing only second to life its self and as far as i can make out the ONLY benifit is that it makes far a faster wap connection but so doe EDGE. The cost of a 3G call can be as much as your first home and to be truthful it would be as easy (and give you the chance to actually see a video opposed to slow picture frames) to send a video clip!

dubai bb, thanks for your advise and i take it that you have had a better experience with 3G. Ive yet to meet anyone who actually see's the benifit of 3G atleast based on the quality of the current video calls available. This also applies to several of my friends in other countries

Hype. The only BlackBerry that comes close is the Japanese 8707 which supports UMTS - and only in Japan. EDGE does not have the speed or simultaneous Voice and Data capabilities of true 3G.

just pulling your leg stuart> Yes I understand where you are coming from.

We are fortunate enough in Dubai to not only have good 3g UMTS service, but great 3.5G HSDPA service. Video calling is good and not so expensive. Also unlimited mobile TV for approx $8 per month.
Even though no phones that I am aware of support it, the network supports downloads of up to 7.2 Mbps

There are no GSM 3G BlackBerries, but on CDMA there are (8830, 8130 just to name a few recent). EVDO is 3G, EDGE is 2.5G
