Being an individual who is 'all thumbs' when it comes to intricate work... I got into the task with some trepidation ...and I think it took almost 5 minutes for me to get the task completed.

Very well-written directions! I looked at the pics prior to starting, and they really helped.

Thanks!!

Re: Trackball Cleaning and Disassembly w/ PICTURES

Well I managed to take everything apart just fine. It was the assembly that screwed me over. I bent the retaining clip and cracked the plastic overlay(top piece) at the bottom. I have everything jammed in the phone. Hopefully it will continue to stay that way.

As you can see you just need to get a screwdriver underneath the retaining clips and the assembly will come apart by itself. There are VERY small pieces. So don't lose anything!!!!

just want to reiterate the fact on HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS........

and with that note any one know where i can buy a new assembly...

Sweet info Red!!

I have found that my pearl doesn't like the metal fabrication industry. The magnetic sensors attract iron particals .

I'll have to get a new job!!

hey, im new to this pinstack website, although i've had my blackberry pearl for about 6 months. anway my problem is that, my trackball rolls great, but when i highlight the program i want to use and try to select it with the trackball, i push down and it doesnt select it, i cant even hear the sound it usually made when i selected different programs. i took it apart and theres nothing in the way, i feel like it has something to do with the actual motherboard. anyone going through the same problem? or anyone have some answers for me? i would really appreciate it. thanks alot!

This sounds like a hardware issue, I don't think think reloading the OS or software would do much. I would call your provider and try and get a replacement device.

Yea they are cheaper at www.cnn.cn

But either way you have to take it out. Some people just don't want to spend money when they don't have too.

Does anyone know where I can get a retaining clip? Mine is bent and twisted, but MIGHT work.

It has been suggested to do so with a q-tip and alcohol, soapy water, regular water, etc. but the most important part is once done blow dry the trackball till the cows come home. You need to make sure that no liquid is left inside. Hope it helps.
