It's very hard job and too much risky. In my country Bangladesh there is no sales centre of Blackberry and there is no service or repair centre of it.My sister sent it to me from USA.So if any damage to trackball occur while cleaning and removal then i will b in great problem and i will b totally helpless.i have no necessary tools u mentioned and showed in photos for cleaning and removal the trackball.MY TRACKBALL IS NOW BLACK AS JAGUAR

I have the same problem with my fingers. I bent it so much it wouldn't go back in. I left it out and trackball works just fine.

Re: Trackball Cleaning and Disassembly w/ PICTURES

hey reddog, i just have a quick question. i've bought a new housing for my 8800 from cnn.cn and i figured i'd see if i could change out the trackball at the same time. you say there are magnetic rollers in the mechanism. do you perchance see the use of ball bearings, glass or plastic as a good replacement for the trackball? i was wondering this because the 8800 does not have the color leds and so i can't use ColorPearl as a good disguise to the actual dirtyness of the trackball. thanks for all your help!

I don't think a different ball would work since it needs to be able to catch on the little ridges of the rollers. The glass would probably be too smooth along with the bearing. plastic may work depending on the serface. It would be worth a try...I have yet to find anything close to the size. Also I have a new cruve so I will probably just buy some spares since they're inexpensive at cnn.cn.

Good luck though...let me know how it goes if you try it.

I don't clean the actual trackball...never have...not really worth the time since it gets pretty stained.
