Rkeller,

I know you think my method is a little risky, and you're right. But take a chance and simply rename the files I listed in Step 5 in my first post in this thread. Rename them by changing ".cod" to ".old". Then run the apploader. It will delete the pics. To get the pics back, all you have to do is change the ".old" back to ".cod" and rerun the apploader.

how did you get the quick player?
I tried downloading it straight from my pearl but I get this message:

"Sorry your device is not supported for QuickPlayer application"

I tried downloading it to my pc too, but it's not working.
I was able to download my copy right from mobile.blackberry.com -- it was an add at the bottom of one the pages (themes page I believe). I did an OTA install and it just worked... good luck

Re: Increase available memory on the pearl

did this to my 8700 ehehe got
Uncaught exception java.lang.NullPointer Exception
after reboot and in alarms. i returned the cod file of the ringtones and now the error is gone. i think this is because the tone for my alarm is part of the packed ringtones.

Re: Increase available memory on the pearl

Cool... I did most of this (I left the ring tones) and now have 42mb after battery pull start up with 4 3rd party apps. That was alot of deleting. I also don't store alot of messages in my BB.. after I read an email I delete it. If I need it again I know it will also be in my outlook.

Re: Increase available memory on the pearl

I had done some of those. I guess I'll be getting a memory card for my Poyl. I was actually down to 1.5Mb and then I went through. I'm up about 20Mb now.

Re: Increase available memory on the pearl

how can you access the 8100 directory for these steps to see file extensions?
my DM doesnt seem to let me access them...

(5) Delete the preloaded pictures by deleting the files: net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod and net_rim_bb_media_100_240x260.cod. Savings = 3.5 MB.

(6) Delete the preloaded ringtones by deleting the file: net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od. Savings = 280k.

thanks!!!!!!!!

Plucks, you don't use DM to delete them, you use Windows Explorer.

hope this helps

There is no hard drive in the Pearl. There is 64 meg of flash memory and then you can add a microSD media Card for up to 2 GByte of memory.

Hope this helps

the only way my explorer seems to recognize the 8100 is if i put it in "Mass Storage Mode"
I am using v4.2.0.71, however, my K:\Blackberry folders that exist all seem to be empty, and i did make sure to include hidden files/folders.

I can't even find the ringtones i added on my own in the windows explorer.
If i choose to not have the mass storage mode, the drive is not found at all...
any ideas?

plucks, you asked about deleting these two files. These files are used to install the preloaded ringtones and preloaded images. If you delete them from your PC, then they should be removed from the installed apps on your blackberry the next time you use apps loader. You can't delete the preloaded images and tones directly from your blackberry. You have to remove them by removing the installation file.

Hope this helps
