Lightbulb How to: Install or Remove a MicroSD Chip

Got another chip for my Pearl so thought it might be handy to post a tutorial on how to install or remove the chip, especially since the chip slot mechanism is very delicate.

Guess the thread can be moved if this is not the right section.

Kudos, sanfran. Those are great photos, too.
Quick question: why did you have to replace your microSD card? I'm going to try to avoid changing my card out as much as possible; that latch is very flimsy.

I did not have to replace, like I said, I got another chip. I wanted to install it to make sure it worked and also to have the Pearl create the default folders.

What is the purpose of turning "mass storage" on?

Re: Installing or Removing a MicroSD Chip

This seems so simple, but I couldn't get the damn card out once I installed it. I thought something was stuck. I even tried using a piece of metal to slide it open. All I had to do was "apply light pressure" and the thing popped right open. Thanks for the insight.

If you have it turned on and connect your Pearl to your computer, the computer will recognize the phone as a Mass Storage Device, simply speaking another hard drive.

Re: Installing or Removing a MicroSD Chip

When I turned off the phone to install the chip, I got the message that the next turn on time is tomorrow morning at 7:45. After installing the chip, the phone did turn on, but there is no signal. Am I the only one to get that mistreatment?

Sounds like your phone is set to time on/ time off. Check

<settings>

<auto on off>

make sure it says

<disabled>

I say it may be this because the default time is around 7:00 a.m.

For the install instructions see the top of the thread by Sanfrancisco, detailed and east to follow.

Once installed select your media icon.
You should see four pictures Music, Video, Ringtones, Pictures.
Click on one of these, let's say Music.
You will see a list that says Up, Media Card, and Preloaded Media.
Click on Media Card
Now press the Menu button and scroll down to New Folder.
Rename it Music and save.
Connect to your Blackberry Desktop Manager via the USB cable.
Now just drag and drop your music files onto the Music folder in the media card.

Cheers
