| Current 8100 vs T-Mo 8120 vs 91xx...Which one??
I can't use my device upgrade until January 2009 and I was wondering, since I am again becoming sick of my SK 3 (on my 2nd one since March 2007), which of the 3 do you all recommend? 1) 8100 (keep my current Pearl for another year) - I know the ins and outs of this since I have had 3 of them. 2) 8120 (get this one if this current Pearl crashes) - 8100 plus Wifi, external memory card slot, other improved features. 3) 91xx (waiting on pins and needles for this one) - hopefully all that the 8100 and 8120 offer plus more. (Found out about cases for this phone here http://www.fortte.com/scr/pda-case/Blackberry/2 then click on the BlackBerry 9000/9100 page to go to http://www.fortte.com/scr/showcategory3.php/185 and reserve your email notification for new cases for this SureType phone). Based on my extensive use of SureType BB's (I came from the 7100t and 7105t to the Pearl), I am positive I want to: 1) Keep the SureType 2) Have an external Memory Card Slot (although I just got an 8gb iPod Nano Video) 3) Have a durable Pearl that won't suffer OS crashes and device crashes. I can say that either the 8120 (if it's still around next year) or the 91xx will fit my needs. Anyone have any input? Last edited by EricaJ1073; 01-27-2008 at 12:52 AM. |

I would say if the pearl is working for you for now why bother. I have a curve, and haven't used the wifi once. I alway wait till devices are out for awhile before I try something new, just to hear the reviews first. Good luck with your choice.

I've 2 pearl and a 7130g and love all 3. I'm able to obtain and Blackberry on renewal of my contract in April and also can't make my mind up. 1. The 8120 looks great with it's extra features and I like the idea of the wifi as I have such setup in 2 locations and that's without taking into account the hotspots I've seen the spec on the 8920?? And love it but don't believe that it will be released until the end of the year if attall. The 8310 looks cool but don't know if the keys will work for me. Then of course there is the 88XX range U also need some help on this matter The current options are 8120 8310 8800 I love my pearl and 7130 but can't make my mind up ?!! ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ |

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I am a little lost - if your upgrade isn't until January 2009 why are you worrying about it now? |

My point wasn't to be obstructive -- January 2009 is a year away -- this year I would go for the pearl 8120 next year, hopefully, the pearl 9xxx -- but who knows what will be about next year?? One year in technology is a lifetime, way to early to even begin thinking -- perhaps this question should be asked when we know more about the next generation of BBs? Until then, and with all due respect, its a pretty pointless thread. Sorry |

Ok everyone. I am looking for POSITIVES here. Not wondering why I am asking early. That is why I believe it's a valid thread. All I am doing is asking for advice to help make a decision. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have posted here in the first place. Thanks.

I don't understand why you would want advice on: 1. A device that is currently available 2. A device that is not yet available 3. A device that at this point would still be considered fictional 4. A year until you are looking to upgrade. Not to be smart or anything, but there is nothing solid on the 9k sure type devices at all, and a lot can happen in 12 months. Look how many different BB's have been released in the last 12 months. By January of next year, the 8100 will be obsolete. The 8120 will be $50 with mail-in rebate and about to reach end of life, the 9k series will be $199 with rebate and the 10k series will have 500 threads on Pinstack with people wanting to know the launch date on it. It's like saying "Should I go out and get a WRX now, wait for the new model year one, or should I get the one that's going on sale next January that rumor is has wings and can fly". |

I don't see these 81xx going anywhere considering the 71xx are still very much active. In fact I just upgraded to the 8700. Now I use it for business, dosnt mean these devies arnt. I'd keep the curve its very nice and with the new 4.3 os its only gonna get better. Just my .02 ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~+ |

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Possibly. Who knows. But the 71 series now are pretty much all but dead. Once u see the 81 series with the wifi and gps hit the US carriers, the 8100's will be axed within 6 months except for refurbs just like they are doing with the 8300's. Like I mentioned before, I am surprised we haven't seen leaked info on an 81 series or any suretype device without a camera. |

I really think the 71xx series is probably the best series suretype device that RIM has made to date. If they can make a pearl with better keypad, I would go for it. I hate how small the pearls buttons are. My old 7105 rivals the keyboard of HTC style phones. The ease and use is really nice. As for 8100, the OS is bad. 4.1 is a lot better than 4.2 in terms of stablity. I am tired of call logs and sms messaging disappearing. |

boom, the logs disappearing means there is not enough memory on the phone to store them. Need to delete some messages, apps, themes, songs, videos, etc. I had three 7100t's (I still have the third one 3 years later) and 2 7105t's. I prefer the 7100t over the 7105t due to stability of device (I only had a severely mashed in power button on my first 7100t and the internal radio died without warning. The 2 7105t's I had...the first one's USB port came loose and the trackwheel on the second one locked up). The 4.1 OS's caused MANY headaches for me..JiveTalk problems, BB Messenger crashing when typing in it. But it was the DEVICE issues I got sick of...shutting down and going into reset loops. N8, I would actually be happy if RIM came out with a Pearl without a camera as I don't use it now. I just wanted opinions on which Pearl is preferred but until the newer ones come out, I guess I will just have to wait. Last edited by EricaJ1073; 01-30-2008 at 01:08 AM. |
