several times................still hanging at initialization. how do I start all over with a clean slate?

It all depends where your BB is at. Start a thread and give us details where you ended up and what condition your BB is in.

ok so here is what i did. i installed the dm, got the os deleted the xml file. my 8100 reboots and still says welcome to t moble, when i installed the cingualr os. so here is the real problem, it is refusing the data connection, and even with a media card installed still says its not there. now ive tryed registering on the host routing table, no luck there. and it still says edge in the upper left, not gsm. does this all sound normal and i will have to just give this phone back to my friend and get a cingular one, requireing me to pay a rediculous amout of money or god forbid, have to sign up again for another 2 years, which is what im really trying to avoid, being held captive by my cellular provider, now im finally on month to month.

Didn't see this just now. All of the OS's are carrier specific. You're looking for the one for your device. All you have to do is find and delete vendor.xml from your PC before connecting the BB to the PC.

I was having a panic attack because my browser and media icons disappeared out of my menu but wiping and restoring the OS fixed the problem all because of this post. Thanks!

I have 8100 having 4.2.0.64 OS.It is T-mobile.I want to update to v4.2.1.164.i downloaded dis file from HongKong CSL limted.Will i upgrade the OS?

Where did you get the downlaod from and is it an 8100 OS. If it is not it will not work, and i would not recommend trying.

If you downloaded it and the info looks like this
v4.2.1.164 (Multilanguage) - Applications: 4.2.1.101; Platform: 2.3.0.80; Size: 73.27mb
the handheld software is actually 4.2.1.101 and yes that will work.

yes all da infos given by u is similar to my one.now question is that instead of appering T-mobile ,the mobile will show HongKong CSL limited during rebooting of my pearl?

No but you need to delete the vedor file b/f you load the os on the pearl. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete the vendor.xml file.

1. Can i use desktop manager version 4.2.0.10 to update my pearl 4.2.0.64 OS to 4.2.1.103 OS?

2. i have t-mobile branded pearl.during starting, the screen displays T-mobile.if i upgrade with another carrier like HongKong CSL limited then the screen will display HongKong CSL limited during starting?I want to see T-mobile during starting of my pearl!!

3. THE OS software from carrier HongKong CSL limited is good enough?

You can choose the 200mb file with Roxio Media Manager or the 53mb file without Roxio

Until TMO gets the glitches fixed in the OS then 1.101 is your best bet.
