and also, for everyone wondering what a hard reset is. its commonly referred as a battery pull. just take your batt out for about 30 seconds, then put back in, that is a hard reset. ~John |

A battery pull is akin to a Soft Reset (aka reboot) of your device, and will not wipe any of your user data on the device. This would be similar to simply sticking a paperclip in the hole in a Treo without any extra buttons held down. OP: a surefire way to 'hard' wipe your handset is to simply reload the OS, and choosing *not* to save any of your settings during the process (there's an option during the OS install to do this type of thing). You can even use a proggy like JL_Cmdr to physically whack the OS on your device to force a fresh OS install. |

I just spoke to RIM tech support. There is no way to perform a hard reset on a BlackBerry device. To set it back to the original state, you must use the Application Loader applet in Desktop Manager. You choose to re-install the OS and use the Advanced button to choose to delete all applications and data on the device. Sorry. |

hi! if i do a hard reset, is it correct to say that only the software which came with the unit will be installed? so, for example, i installed yahoo messenger, it wouldn't be there after the hard reset? |

| Re: Anyone know how to do a hard reset?
I was worried when I did the OS upgrade because of how long it was taking so I was about to do the soft reset. Luckilly (and I think this may have to do with my threat to severly beat my pearl) it suddenly finished and I was able to use it again. But as everyone else is saying, there is no such thing as a hard reset on the pearl. The wipe info option cleans out everything and does start it from fresh but that's not really a "hard" reset. The wipe info option is just as if you removed EVERYTHING from your computer except for the OS. The hard reset is really just blowing away everything INCLUDING the OS and then reinstalling it. Say if you format your harddrive and then start from fresh. |
