    Hey all.

I have been helping Agent on this the last few days by doing remote login, and here is where we stand:

    1. OS is installed on his computer
    2. Desktop Manager v4.2 SP2
    3. Windows Vista on Computer (ugh).
    4. Javaloader installed on computer as well

The device will connect to erase the data, however during the reboot, it will not connect.

Through JavaLoader, it will not connect either. Even if I get it connected through DM then try and ping it with the Javaloader, it won't connect.

When trying to load via DM, after the erase and attempt to reboot, it endless hourglasses, then reboots, then hourglasses, then reboots, then hourglasses.

Of course, different USB ports have been tried.

At this point, these are the last ditch ideas:
    1. We need to try this on an XP computer rather than VISTA, because Vista sucks.
    2. The DM version needs to be v4.2. 4.3 is notorious for not wanting to connect
    3. Agent, you have my address if it comes down to it and want to send it to me, I can run it against my computer here.

Possibly this thing can get back up and running, but from the sounds of it, we're possibly looking at a hardware failure. There have only been a handful of instances where I couldn't use the JCL to connect to a device, and those instances the device was fried. However, like I said, I recommend getting this on a computer that has XP on it rather than Vista.

I'm kinda tied up this morning but will try and keep an eye on this thread.

    EDIT:

In the above post, those items WERE installed on his computer, so I have no idea what he has installed on there now.

If you have DM 4.3 installed on there, get rid of it. You need DM 4.2 Service Pack 2.

What else have you deleted or installed since the other night?

    We can try.

    Go to BlackBerry and download:
*Desktop Manager 4.2, Service pack 2
    * go to www.blackberry.com/developers and download BlackBerry JDE 4.3.0 (email me if you need a username/password to get in there).
don't worry about the OS. I will install that when I remote in.
Lemme know when u atleast have DM downloaded and installed.

Smile My Pearl has been restored: was a hardware issue

So I managed to restore my pearl after I got desperate and took the entire device apart. The USB connection on the phone seems to have been making a poor contact. A couple of squirts with some electronic contact cleaner did the trick.

Note: you don't have to take the device apart to use these spray contact cleaners. In may case I doused the circuit with some long squirts while holding the main PCB so that the majority of the liquid ran off the PCB onto a tissue rather than risk the liquid carrying the problem elsewhere on the board. This is easier to do with the unit dismantled. I found a video on YouTube which explained how to dismantle a pearl which helped.

some of the spray got behind the screen even though I tried to be careful. This affected the display for an hour or two but the effect diminished over time and isn't an issue for me now.

Thanks for the great tips, the advice from this forum kept me going after I'd tried at least 50 times, and patience was indeed rewarded

I think I may be beyond hope

So I have now wiped my device using the JL CMDER thing and then downloaded noew device manager and device software but even after following steps in this thread, I can't seem to get the computer to recognize my device. I am using a Curve 8300 originally bought in the UK but now unlocked and on TMobile. I want to fill out my pintuck profile - how do I do this?
