How To: Switch Between SureType and Multi-tap

For some reason I thought this was already here somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it.

Anyways, to switch from SureType to Multi-Tap on reduced keyboard devices (8100, 7105, 7130, 7100), simply go to either a message or bbmessenger or something of that nature.

Press and hold down the * key.

After 2-3 seconds, you should see the ABC appear in the upper right hand side of your screen.

You are now in Multi-Tap mode.

To get back to SureType, simply repeat the above steps and you will be back in SureType mode.

Sorry for video being all choppy and blurry, but the camera is one I just stopped by CompUSA one day and picked up for like $20.00.

Unfortunately, my computer with all the really good video editing and in/out jacks is at home. I really need to bring it into the office.

I tried this and I can not seem to get it to work. I'm using US Cellular and I have the 8703e. Any suggestions?

butler, The 8703 is a qwerty device, it does not use or need sure-type or multi-tap modes so those are not available on your device.

Another way is to hit the Blackberry Emblem while in a text field and it should give you the option to Enable or disable multi tap. That was definitely a life saver for me as I cannot stand Sure Type. Thanks for the How-To, N8

I've noticed that, in some 3rd party programs, holding down the * key to toggle between suretype and multitap doesn't work, but using the menu key as shuteru mentioned is usually available in all applications. So, if the hold down method doesn't work, the menu method should.

tried that, but cannot open any messages, they are all highlighted and asking if i want to delete all messages!

also cannot write any numbers on the screen for dialling - they all come up as letters. help appreciated .

I had that problem once
I had to swich off and on the phone and it worked !!!
God knows why but it did work !

I just got the new Verizon BB8130. I tried using the star key to switch back and forth between Sure Type and Multi-tap. It doesn't work on the 8130 like it does on the 8100. Anyone figured out how to do it on the 8130?
