Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

I think some others were having a hard time with the theme option with the 4.1 upgrade. My personal solution when I get a crazy error message... reboot... if that doesn't work and its possible, re-install. No clue if that will help you tho hazmater, just what I do.

Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

Here's the update. After loading 4.1 on my 7100t, I am now able to get the default large and small, and the orange themes, all the others, vodaphone, o2, bb- insight, I get the UNCAUGHT EXCEPTION error. The calculater is screwed up in all of them (not that that is a big concern of mine). Any thoughts Thanks again.

the calculator being screwed up is an older problem with using different carriers themes. I don't know why bb-insight would work though. especially with an exception error. sounds like a glitch during the install of the OS.

If you backed up your bb all you have to do is wipe off the info and restore it from per say the day/hours before you upgrade...or talk to fellow stackers who have been there done that!!

Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

I have a 7105t with T-Mobile US and am thinking about upgrading to 4.1. Specifically, I'm looking for for Bluetooth to support OPP (Object Push Profile). This will allow my BB to automatically sync my phonebook with my hands-free car kit (Parrot ck3100). Anyone know if the upgrade supports this BT profile?

Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

I remember another poster stating that he was able transfer his address book to his vehicle via BT with out probloems. And if I remember correctly it was a 7100 series. I think the 4.1 can't hurt. Just make sure to follow all steps and BACKUP data before doing so. Also, in some cases it takes a while to load up so just be patient and let the BB do its thing. Good Luck!

Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

I followed the upgrade instructions, but instead of deleting the vendor.xml file, I moved it to a different folder. But 4.1 DM did not prompt me for the O.S. upgrade.

I have 7105t from T-mobile. I had previously installed 4.0.1 DM and I upgraded it to 4.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you have to delte vendor.xml or either rename it for the upgrade prompt. Try renaming it instead.

Re: How to: OS 4.1 Upgrade for your Blackberry

I tried renaming as well as deleting. Even reinstalling the DM. But nothing is making it to prompt for upgrade. DM recognizes my phone and phone is working too. I was wondering if I need data plan. Because right now I have just voice plan.

No, you don't need a data plan to do the upgrade. After you d/l the 4.1 did you run it or just save it somewhere? After you finish the install of it be sure to close DM, then delete the vendor file.

Follow these instructions and you should be able to have OS 4.1 working for you too.

1.) BACK UP YOUR DATA! - I can't stress how important it is to get a good backup in the event you need to retore your data.

2.) Verify that you are using the latest version of Desktop Manager. In the Desktop manager program on your PD use the Help menu and select About Desktop Manager. The latest version is 4.1.0.8. If you need the latest version follow this link.

3.) Download OS 4.1 from this link.
For 72xx bluetooth, download BlackBerry 7290 Wireless Handheld Chinese 4.1
For 71xx, download BlackBerry 7100g(TM) Multilanguage 4.1

4.) Install 4.1 using the .exe file you just downloaded.

5.) Delete the 'Vendor.xml' file ( C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader ) Or search your computer's hard drive for the "vendor.xml" file. Once you find it, delete it.

6.) Connect your device to your PC via the USB cable.

7.) Open Desktop Manager. It should recognize that there is an upgrade for your device. ('Vendor.xml' must be deleted for this step to work) Follow the prompts and you will have OS 4.1 installed in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Good luck and of course, myself nor pinstack.com can take responsibilty for any problems that may occur. I will however extend my assistance if you need it.
Thank you so much for these instructions! I have been looking all over the internet for this and it is great! Thank you so much!
