How to: OS 4.x Upgrade for your Blackberry

i have the 7290 and am trying to do the upgrade to 4.1
everytime i do the 4.1 install from the net i get a microsoft error, so i click don't send and it seems to be ok but won't register when my BB is conected.

anyone have any clues how to fix?

What does your error say?

I am using that OS on a US T Mobile phone It is the OS for another cell provider. You just delete that vendor file and poof it works. Just make sure you back up first. That way if it doesn't work out for you it can be restored back to the way it was.

I'm using BB7100g with OS ver 4.0. If I upgrade to OS 4.1, will the menus changed to icon-based?

@ knights- Yes they will, and you can even download the Sweet MacBerry Theme! You could also use a List theme. There is a default one, if you like that kinda thing.

After the upgrade to 4.1, I no longer seem to have a browser (some reference to Service Book and me talking to my provider). Having little faith in talking to service provider, what do i do?

Who is your carrier?

I was on BES with email and calendar from our corporate Groupwise, can't get that anymore either

The upgrade was a piece of cake. I on the other hand have not noticed any performance improvements.

Need some help - please - I tried to download Ver 4.1 for my unlocked 7100t. I thought i followed the directions but after the download I get a mismash of questions, one on top of another on top of very basic black and white icons. any thought on what to do? Thanks:ahh:

With this new 4.1 OS update, will it allow us to use the Blackberry 7290 as a bluetooth modem??

Here's a quick How To on installing 4.1.

Follow these instructions and you should be able to have OS 4.1 working for you too.

1.) BACK UP YOUR DATA! - I can't stress how important it is to get a good backup in the event you need to retore your data.

2.) Verify that you are using the latest version of Desktop Manager. In the Desktop manager program on your PD use the Help menu and select About Desktop Manager. The latest version is 4.1.0.8. If you need the latest version follow this link.

3.) Download OS 4.1 from this link.
For 72xx bluetooth, download BlackBerry 7290 Wireless Handheld Chinese 4.1
For 71xx, download BlackBerry 7100g(TM) Multilanguage 4.1

4.) Install 4.1 using the .exe file you just downloaded.

5.) Delete the 'Vendor.xml' file ( C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader ) Or search your computer's hard drive for the "vendor.xml" file. Once you find it, delete it.

6.) Connect your device to your PC via the USB cable.

7.) Open Desktop Manager. It should recognize that there is an upgrade for your device. ('Vendor.xml' must be deleted for this step to work) Follow the prompts and you will have OS 4.1 installed in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Good luck and of course, myself nor pinstack.com can take responsibilty for any problems that may occur. I will however extend my assistance if you need it.

Thanks for your reply - I tried what that thread said but I still have the same result Is there a way to total start from scratch? Now it doesn't even hook up to the DM. There is only one colored icon and that is for the game - that works fine

Breakthrough! I am able to the default icon (yea) but when I try for any other theme I get an error message that states : uncaught exception java.lang.llegalArgumentException - any thoughts?
