English and Mandarin Chinese. Spent two years in Taiwan. I know the alphabet in sign language and some programming. I should speak French, being Canadian, but I didn't pay attention in school. Lol

Re: How many people speak different languages?

LMAO I have actually had people think I'm Deaf because I started signing when I was 12. I started picking up signs from friends in school and at summer camps for kids with various disabilities who were either Deaf or speech impaired and used sign language in order to communicate. Last year we had a new camper at a different camp I volunteer at who signed (last one prior to this was YEARS ago LOL and she was Deaf) and we automatically assumed she was Deaf. We found out, when she checked in, she was actually only speech impaired.

English, Welsh (my wife's first language), Latin (always useful for speaking to dead Romans) and Italian (as I love Italy).

English and French. Losing the French, though. Studied every year from 7th grade thru college and spent time in France, but haven't used it much since and I'm losing it. Also a little (very little) Russian. Took one semester at the local CC, but the 2nd part was cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Too bad, it's a beautiful language.

Re: How many people speak different languages?

American English and French. Flunked two years of high school French, then about ten years later married a french woman, had to learn French to defend myself with my kids as they grew up. Now they're grown, and we're divorced, but I can still speak French.

BBadBoy, you need to find an Alliance Francaise group, most have at least monthly conversation groups where you can practice.

This happened to me with one of my Sign Language courses a few years ago and I can't find anywhere in the Houston area to practice my skills. Studied in 12th grade, lost 2 years of skills at a school that didn't even offer sign, and finally caught back up after transferring.

The few Deaf/Hard of Hearing friends I had at the local college have gone on to other colleges and since I've been out for a year, I have had no practice.
