If you don't want to spend too much, then you get their worst level, if you spend that little bit more and get the 3Yr NBD, then i'm sorry but you can't fault the service!
Wrong.......For example: Dell uses Toshiba hard drives. Toshiba HD's come w/ 3 yr warranty...unless it's in a Dell, then it's back to one year. bs

Remember, it's not the Dell that counts, but the farmer in it.

Dell computers are solid machines and thier support (gold) is just as good. Crack open a newer model dell workstation (not a home pc) and compare it to an ibm/hp workstation of the same grade. My dell precision 490 replaced my hp xw8200 and costed $300 less and completely murders the hp in performance. I also have a dell xps 310 laptop that I've had for 2 years and it still smokes anything I throw at it. I'm also a sysadmin that manages about 500 mixed dell/hp servers but majority hp and I'd say that they are pretty much the same when it comes to reliability and support. Personally I hate ibm servers and I think they are trash from experience. I spent many long hours messing with crapped out ibm hardware and their support was sub-par.

All in all, this is always just going to be debate based on personal experience. No matter what the experience though, the numbers that say just how well each company is doing in the markets (markets being home and business) don't lie.

    Just my two cents.

I dunno, they aren't too bad. We have them at work (laptops and desktops).

Dell products aren't bad, they are just geared toward consumer base. We use Dell laptop, workstation, and servers at work and seem to be pleased with them so far.

But on the other hand when I really want something that works well for personal use and stability i'd much rather stick with IBM laptops.

I have worked with most of them all, IBM, Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway.
They all have there own issues. IBM's come in pieces and you have to put them together, atleast the ones we get from them. Dell service can be problems. I have an IBM latop and it is running great too. We got 2 new Vista Lenovo(Thinkpad) Laptops and they have wireless issues with the IBM/Lenovo Management software. So you have a crap shoot as far as they go. I could go on but, I ave to get back to work.

I love my older thinkpad(before IBM sold to Lenovo). It works great and my fav feature is the little LED light at the top that is very useful in presentations or on an airplane. I like the dell's too, the wife has a dell, but its bulky and not practical for my mobile office.

I have a few Dell's. (3 laptops, 2 desktops and 2 servers) And have been truly happy with all of them. They all still run, with the exception on one of the old Latitude CPx's. But heck 7 years is a good run for a laptop that has been dropped a dozen or more times

And my company which was previously 100% HP, is now using Dell Optiplex 745's/755's and are completely happy.

My last two computers including monitors were purchased through Dell, as well as my younger brothers XPS gaming rig untill most recently when I made the switch to HP. They just seemed to offer a better package at the time.

(A really old post coming back to life...Kool.) I have owned 3 Dell desktops, no issues, easy to hac...repair, sorry. I have no beef w/ any pc's other than Gateway. <----(JUNK!) All my Dell units were modified for my convenience. I dis-like Dell support and Dell Financing...(High Interest!) Oh well, a lesson learned.
