    Domain Name Registrars

    Hey there fellow PINstackers...

I wanted to register my own domain name, and just wanted to get some opinions of some of the providers that everyone else may use/recommend. I plan on using it for basic use, and I would like a small space file hosting (~20-50MB is sufficient). Also, please keep in mind that because it is not primarily for business use, I do not have a large amount of finances alotted.

Based on some simple googling, I have found the following:

Micro$oft Office Live - Offers a "free" one that appears taylored to "businesses".

Network Solutions - ~$35/year + a monthly fee of $8-12 depending on how many web pages you wanted.

Your input is appreciated - thanks!

Netfirms and Dreamhost have good deals for about $10 for a year including a domain name and registration. Make sure you use a one time credit card number or they will autobill after a year for the full price of $120. I used my Citi card and generated a one time use CC number for online purchase of my netfirms account.

I use godaddy.com for all of my domains. They are not the cheapest as far as registering domains but they do provide some good additional services if you need them.

I would recommend godaddy.com, I've used them over the years, I know they have support over the phone (not a 800#) but what can you expect. Never had problems with them and as they said before they offer various options such as masking domain, email catching etc They also allow to hold email, for example i have site's hosted out of my home and to not have the hassle of setting up email servers I let them store it for free. I do have to pull them some how like a pop3 as its not like webmail...

    Re: Domain Name Registrars

I have about 15 domains and they're all with Godaddy. They are an excellent provider. My company also uses them and they have hundreds of domains.

There are a myriad of webhosts out there. Please do research before you choose one. I use ChiHost (http://www.chihost.com/) and you get something like 6gb of space for 9.95/mo and discounts for pre-paying. If you're paying more than 5 bucks a month and have less than 500mb of web space you're DEFINITELY getting ripped off. A good hosting company may also allow you to register a free domain name.

You can search for a webhost to suit your needs here: http://www.webhostdir.com/
